The Short Answer

If you don’t have a car, the simplest airboat trip is the 30-minute ride with round-trip transport from Orlando, Kissimmee and the Disney area, which gets you back by lunchtime. Want more than the boat? The Wild Florida version adds its wildlife park and a BBQ lunch, and one combo adds Gatorland. If you already have a car, skip the transfer and drive: our Orlando airboat tours hub compares the self-drive rides.

The Full Breakdown

Do You Need Transport for an Airboat Ride?

The airboat parks sit in the lakes and marshes south and east of Kissimmee, away from the hotel strips, and the parks themselves don’t run shuttles. Wild Florida, for example, points guests to transport tours or Uber. That leaves you three choices: drive, take a rideshare, or book a ride with transport included. Here is how the transport tours differ and when the extra cost pays off.

Airboat ride with transport: the half-day option

The Orlando airboat ride tour with hotel pickup is the lightest option. Gray Line of Orlando collects you from meeting points in Orlando, Kissimmee and the Disney area, drives you to a fish camp in the Central Florida Everglades for a 30-minute ride, and includes entry to the airboat park. You’re back in Orlando by lunchtime, which leaves the afternoon for a park or the pool.

Book it at least 2 days ahead, and check which pickup point is nearest your hotel. The listing doesn’t name the airboat operator, so choose one of the rides below if you care which park you visit.

Wild Florida with pickup and lunch: best for families

Wild Florida airboat ride with hotel pickup and lunch takes you to Wild Florida in Kenansville, the farthest of the parks on this page from Disney. It includes a 30-minute ride, the Wild Florida wildlife park with its live alligator demonstration, a BBQ basket lunch at the park grill and a 6x8 photo per family. Departure time depends on your hotel pickup.

Pick this if you want the full Wild Florida day without a 34-mile drive each way, and if seeing alligators matters: wild sightings on the water are never guaranteed, but the park has plenty. Read more about the park in our Wild Florida airboat breakdown. Note that Wild Florida is closed on Sundays.

Airboat and Gatorland with pickup: best gator day

The airboat tour and Gatorland with hotel pickup pairs a 30-minute ride at the Boggy Creek airboat park with admission to Gatorland, with transport between the two and back to Orlando. Gatorland has the shows, including Gator Jumparoo and Alligators: Legends of the Swamp, plus the boardwalks over its breeding marsh.

This is the best value in time if you’d planned to visit both anyway. Skip it if you only want one gator stop; Gatorland tickets on their own are a short drive from Disney, and our Gatorland vs Wild Florida guide helps you pick.

Kennedy Space Center plus airboat: a full day

Kennedy Space Center full-day tour with an airboat safari ride fits Kennedy admission, the general bus tour and a 30-minute airboat ride on the St. Johns River into one long day. Transport runs from meeting points in Kissimmee, Disney, Lake Buena Vista, Universal and International Drive, not from hotel doors. It must be booked at least 7 days ahead and is not valid on launch days. Compare it with the other Kennedy options on our Kennedy from Orlando page.

Not an airboat: the alligator paddle

The Orlando Alligator Experience is a different kind of trip: an 8-mile guided paddle down a wild river with no motorboats, and the shuttle takes you back to your car at the end of the paddle. It doesn’t pick up from hotels. It suits confident adult paddlers and isn’t suitable for non-swimmers or children under 5.

What transport adds in time and money

Money first. A self-drive 30-minute ride costs from about $34–$41 at Boggy Creek and from $37 per adult at Wild Florida at the gate (as of 2026). A transport tour charges per person for the ride plus the transfer, and some add lunch or a second attraction. The live prices on this page show the gap.

The rule of thumb: transport costs per person, a car costs per group.

  • Solo travelers and couples without a car: a transport tour is usually the simplest option, with no navigating or parking.
  • Families of four or more: the per-person transfer adds up fast. If you have a rental car, drive.
  • Staying near Disney or in Kissimmee with a car: drive to the Kissimmee parks, which are close, and keep the saving.

Time next. A self-drive 30-minute ride near Kissimmee takes two to three hours with check-in and the drive. A transport tour adds pickup rounds and waiting for other guests, so the 30-minute ride becomes a morning. The Wild Florida trip with lunch and the Gatorland combo take longer again, and the Kennedy combo is a full day.

Which one should you choose?

  • No car and only a morning free: the airboat ride with transport.
  • Kids who want to see plenty of gators: Wild Florida with pickup and lunch, or the Gatorland combo.
  • Space fans with one spare day: Kennedy plus airboat.
  • You have a car: skip transport and compare the rides on the airboat hub.

Practical tips

  • Confirm your pickup point and time after booking; pickups run only in the listed tourist areas.
  • Summer afternoons bring thunderstorms, so a morning pickup is the better slot from June to September.
  • Bring sunscreen, sunglasses and a light layer; it feels cooler on the water. Ear protection is provided at the parks.
  • The transport tours on this page all have free cancellation up to 24 hours before, but the Kennedy combo charges a $35 no-show or late-cancellation fee within 24 hours.

"We were picked up at our hotel by a fantastic live guide who told us American history from Florida the entire drive to Kissimmee and was super nice. On the way home, he dropped us off where we wanted within the given area, so it was absolutely perfect! We saw several alligators and lots of birds, so it was absolutely amazing, and our live guide on the boat also taught us a lot about the wildlife in swamp areas ☺️ An absolutely fantastic trip that is definitely recommended! 🤩"

"The activity was excellent. But next time, we'll go on our own because the guide is just a driver, and he's on the phone the whole way. We talked together at the hotel pickup and then on the way from the Everglades, that's all."

"Our driver was brilliant. The drive up there was a tour in itself and he was so factual and really nice. The time on the airboat was great we saw crocs and other wildlife. Captain was brilliant"

"Absolutely fantastic trip that I would recommend to anyone wanting an authentic experience away from the theme parks. Ishmail our driver was great - such a friendly knowledgeable guy who we learnt lots of information from before we even arrived - he stayed with us ensuring everyone had what they needed before we headed into the alligator park and was there and ready early when the storms brought an end to the day later on in the afternoon. Captain Geoff out on the airboat was also brilliant - again very knowledgeable and the experience was one in a lifetime that we thoroughly enjoyed. We saw an alligator feeding in the water on the walkway over to the airboat and although we didn’t see any out in the boat (due to the time of year) there are lots of them to see within the park so no disappointment at all. Great food on offer and the gift shop was stocked full of nice items to take home."

"Everything went really well. We were picked up on time at Icon Park, Shoona was a very nice guide who made sure the trip didn't seem too long with her cheerful manner. The airboat ride was very interesting; we saw lots of native animals and plants and got clear explanations about everything. Unfortunately, we didn't see any alligators. We had some time left to visit the butterfly house and grab a bite to eat. After the return trip, we were dropped off near our hotel. A very nice day."
