Best Rides at Disney World: Which Are Worth the Wait?
The best rides at Disney World ranked, from Cosmic Rewind and Rise of the Resistance to Kilimanjaro Safaris, with height requirements and which lines to skip.

Walt Disney World has dozens of rides across its four theme parks, and they are not equally worth an hour of your Orlando vacation. If we could send a first-time visitor on only five, we’d choose Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Avatar Flight of Passage, TRON Lightcycle / Run and Kilimanjaro Safaris.
That is not just a list of the biggest roller coasters. Disney’s best rides do something you can’t easily find elsewhere: rotating coaster cars, a trackless Star Wars escape, simulated flight on a banshee, a motorcycle-style launch or a safari among live animals. For families the ranking changes: Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Frozen Ever After and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure can be better choices than the big thrill rides, because almost everyone can ride them together.
Our rule is simple. If a ride is unique, immersive and hard to replicate outside Walt Disney World, we’ll accept a longer line. If it’s enjoyable but conventional, we won’t. Every ride below needs park admission: buy it from Disney. The box below is for an evening helicopter flight over the parks, an add-on once your plans are set.

The 15 best Disney World rides at a glance
| Rank | Ride | Park | Best for | Height requirement | Our verdict on the wait |

| 2 | Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance | Hollywood Studios | Almost everyone tall enough | 40 in / 102 cm | Worth a long wait |
| 3 | Avatar Flight of Passage | Animal Kingdom | Immersion, thrill seekers | 44 in / 112 cm | Worth a long wait |
| 4 | TRON Lightcycle / Run | Magic Kingdom | Thrill seekers | 48 in / 122 cm | Excellent, but short |
| 5 | Kilimanjaro Safaris | Animal Kingdom | Families, animal lovers | Any height | Absolutely worth it |
| 6 | The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror | Hollywood Studios | Thrill seekers | 40 in / 102 cm | One of Disney’s classics |

| 10 | Big Thunder Mountain Railroad | Magic Kingdom | Families, first coasters | 38 in / 97 cm | Usually worth it |
| 11 | Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure | EPCOT | Families, Pixar fans | Any height | Great, but don’t overdo the wait |
| 12 | Haunted Mansion | Magic Kingdom | Almost everyone | Any height | Disney essential |
| 13 | Slinky Dog Dash | Hollywood Studios | Families, young coaster fans | 38 in / 97 cm | Good; the wait often exceeds the ride |
| 14 | Pirates of the Caribbean | Magic Kingdom | Families, classic Disney | Any height | Excellent value at moderate waits |
| 15 | Frozen Ever After | EPCOT | Families, Frozen fans | Any height | Very good for the right audience |
One important distinction: our rankings measure the whole experience, not raw intensity. A ride doesn’t have to be frightening or fast to be one of Walt Disney World’s best.
Our quick picks:
- Best overall: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
- Best immersive ride: Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
- Best at Magic Kingdom: TRON Lightcycle / Run
- Best for families: Kilimanjaro Safaris
- Best classic Disney ride: Haunted Mansion
- Best for thrill seekers: Guardians or Tower of Terror
A long line doesn’t automatically mean a better ride. The point of this page is telling you which lines deserve your limited vacation time.
Our top 5 Disney World rides
If you have limited time, start here.
1. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
- Park: EPCOT
- Height: 42 in / 107 cm
- Best for: Adults, teens, coaster fans
- Avoid if: You are very sensitive to spinning or motion sickness
If we had to choose one Walt Disney World ride purely for the experience of riding it, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind would be our pick.
It isn’t Disney World’s most frightening coaster. What makes it exceptional is the ride system.
The cars don’t simply face down the track. They rotate through 360 degrees to point you at the action as you move through huge indoor show scenes. Disney describes it as a family-thrill coaster with the first reverse launch on a Disney coaster, and one of the largest fully enclosed coasters in the world.
That makes Cosmic Rewind feel less like sitting on a conventional roller coaster and more like being swept through a choreographed sequence.
And then there’s the soundtrack.
Different songs can play during the ride, which gives repeat rides a surprisingly different personality.
Is Guardians scary?
It’s fast and much more intense than Disney’s gentler family coasters, but it doesn’t rely on huge exposed drops.
The bigger issue for some visitors is motion sickness. Because the cars rotate while the coaster moves, people who handle ordinary roller coasters can still feel queasy here.
If spinning simulators give you trouble, don’t ride straight after a big meal.
Is Guardians worth a long wait?
Yes.
This is one of the few attractions where we’d reluctantly accept a long standby wait rather than miss it.
Disney requires riders to be at least 42 inches / 107 cm tall.
Our verdict
Best overall ride at Disney World.
It’s clever without feeling like a technology demonstration, thrilling without being brutal, and long enough to feel like a real headline attraction.
Rating: 10/10
2. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
- Park: Disney’s Hollywood Studios
- Height: 40 in / 102 cm
- Best for: Star Wars fans, families with older children, anyone who likes immersive rides
- Avoid if: Loud environments or confrontational theatrical scenes are a problem
Calling Rise of the Resistance a “ride” doesn’t quite explain it.
It is closer to a mini Star Wars adventure built from several environments, actors, elaborate sets and different ride systems.
It is theatrical from the start. Instead of simply boarding a vehicle and moving around a track, you’re pulled into a Resistance mission that goes spectacularly wrong.
The ride section itself uses trackless vehicles, but some of the most memorable moments happen before and around them.
Disney lists Rise of the Resistance for guests 40 inches / 102 cm or taller.
Why it ranks above almost every coaster
Because you remember the whole experience, not just the track layout.
A good roller coaster gives you three exciting minutes.
Rise gives you a story with a beginning, middle and end.
Star Wars knowledge helps, but it isn’t required. The sheer scale of the sets is impressive even if you couldn’t tell a stormtrooper from a clone trooper.
Is Rise of the Resistance scary?
It isn’t an extreme thrill ride.
There are dark sections, loud noises, sudden movement and a short drop-like moment. Young children who dislike villains or tense theatrical scenes may find the First Order scenes intimidating.
But the physical ride is much gentler than Tower of Terror or Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster.
Is it worth a long wait?
Yes.
This is exactly the kind of attraction we’d prioritize, because no conventional amusement park has an equivalent.
If you are buying Lightning Lane selectively, Rise is one of the rides where skipping a huge line makes a real difference to your day. It is Hollywood Studios’ only Lightning Lane Single Pass attraction.
Our verdict
Disney World’s best immersive ride.
Guardians is more fun minute for minute. Rise is the more ambitious piece of theme-park design.
Rating: 10/10
3. Avatar Flight of Passage
- Park: Disney’s Animal Kingdom
- Height: 44 in / 112 cm
- Best for: Immersive thrills, Avatar fans and non-fans alike
- Avoid if: Simulators make you sick or you dislike being restrained around the torso and legs
You don’t need to care about Avatar to understand why Flight of Passage became Animal Kingdom’s headline attraction.
You sit astride a ride vehicle meant to feel like a banshee while a huge screen and motion system create the sensation of flying across Pandora.
What separates it from an ordinary simulator is the combination of movement, scale, wind, imagery and small sensory effects.
It’s Disney asking how convincing simulated flight can get without building a roller coaster.
Pretty convincing.
Disney sells Avatar Flight of Passage as Animal Kingdom’s Lightning Lane Single Pass attraction, separate from the park’s Multi Pass selection.
That alone tells you where Disney expects the greatest demand.
Is Flight of Passage scary?
There’s no huge physical drop.
But your brain receives visual information suggesting you’re diving, swooping and accelerating.
Some people who dislike heights find it more intense than the mechanics would suggest.
Motion sickness is also possible.
Is it worth a long queue?
Usually yes.
Flight of Passage is one of the rides we’d head to straight after entering Animal Kingdom if we weren’t using Lightning Lane.
Our verdict
One of Disney’s best examples of technology disappearing behind an experience.
You don’t come out talking about screens and hydraulics. You come out talking about flying.
Rating: 9.5/10
4. TRON Lightcycle / Run
- Park: Magic Kingdom
- Height: 48 in / 122 cm
- Best for: Thrill seekers, teens, adults
- Avoid if: The motorcycle-style seating worries you, or your children are under 48 inches
TRON has perhaps the coolest riding position at Walt Disney World.
Instead of sitting in a normal coaster seat, most riders lean forward onto motorcycle-style Lightcycles. The train launches into a glowing digital world inspired by TRON: Legacy.
Disney says TRON is one of the fastest coasters at any Disney theme park in the world, and the height requirement is 48 inches / 122 cm.
Ride it after dark if you can. The outdoor canopy glows around you before the coaster dives inside, and the effect is noticeably stronger at night.
The catch: it’s short
TRON’s weakness is not quality.
It’s length.
The ride feels spectacular while you’re on it, but the high-speed part ends quickly enough that a very long wait can leave you thinking, “Was that it?”
That’s why we’ve ranked Guardians above it.
Guardians is not only excellent; it feels substantial.
Is TRON worth a long queue?
Worth putting high on the list, yes. Worth almost any wait, no.
If the posted wait is brutal and you’re choosing where to spend Lightning Lane money, TRON is a very reasonable candidate. It is one of Magic Kingdom’s two Single Pass attractions, with Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.
Our verdict
The best pure thrill ride at Magic Kingdom, and one of the most photogenic attractions Disney has built.
We just wish it lasted longer.
Rating: 9/10
5. Kilimanjaro Safaris
- Park: Disney’s Animal Kingdom
- Height: Any height
- Best for: Everyone, especially families and animal lovers
- Avoid if: Almost nobody should, though the vehicle can be bumpy
Our highest-ranked attraction without a height requirement isn’t a roller coaster at all.
Kilimanjaro Safaris takes you through the Harambe Wildlife Reserve, 110 acres of African-style savanna, forest and wetland with more than 30 species, in an open-sided vehicle with a driver-guide. The expedition lasts about 18 minutes.
The crucial detail is that you’re looking for real animals, not animatronics.
That means every ride is different.
You might find giraffes close to the road on one visit and elephants especially active on another. Sometimes the lions are visible. Sometimes they’re doing what lions do extremely well: sleeping somewhere inconvenient.
That unpredictability is what keeps the attraction interesting on repeat visits.
When should you ride?
We prefer earlier in the day to leaving it until the final hour.
No time of day guarantees a particular animal, but riding early leaves you the option of coming back later if it matters to you.
Is the safari worth waiting for?
Yes, within reason.
More importantly, don’t skip it because you’re focused only on “rides.”
Without Kilimanjaro Safaris, you’ve missed one of the experiences that make Animal Kingdom fundamentally different from the other Disney parks.
Our verdict
Best Disney World attraction for the whole family.
A toddler, a teenager, a parent and a grandparent can all do exactly the same thing together.
Rating: 9.5/10
6. The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
- Park: Hollywood Studios
- Height: 40 in / 102 cm
- Best for: Thrill seekers
- Biggest fear factor: Drops
Tower of Terror is one of Walt Disney World’s great examples of an old attraction that doesn’t need replacing just because newer technology exists.
The queue, lobby, pre-show and crumbling Hollywood hotel set the mood long before you reach the ride vehicle.
Then the elevator starts behaving very badly.
It is a drop ride in the dark with scary elements, and Disney lists it for riders 40 inches / 102 cm and taller.
How scary is Tower of Terror?
For many visitors, this is the scariest ride at Disney World.
Not because it’s the fastest, but because repeated vertical drops produce the stomach-lifting feeling some people love and others hate.
Someone comfortable on Guardians may still refuse Tower of Terror.
That’s perfectly logical: they’re very different sensations.
Worth queuing?
Yes, if you enjoy drop rides.
If you don’t, no amount of theming will make the main ride mechanism pleasant.
Our verdict
Still brilliant.
Rating: 9/10
7. Expedition Everest
- Park: Animal Kingdom
- Height: 44 in / 112 cm
- Best for: Coaster fans, teens
- Biggest surprise: It does more than just go forward
Expedition Everest is easy to underrate because it isn’t Disney World’s newest coaster.
Don’t.
It’s one of its best.
A runaway train heads into the Himalayas in search of the legendary Yeti. The ride combines a convincing artificial mountain, dark sections, high-speed coaster elements and an excellent mid-ride surprise.
Without spoiling too much: the track ahead isn’t always going to cooperate.
Is it scary?
It’s a proper roller coaster and noticeably more aggressive than Seven Dwarfs Mine Train or Slinky Dog Dash.
But it’s not as disorienting as Guardians, and it doesn’t have the inversions of Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster.
Worth waiting?
Yes, and it can have one of the better ride-to-wait ratios among Disney’s headline attractions.
If the line is moderate, we’d ride without hesitation.
Our verdict
One of the best reasons not to reduce Animal Kingdom to “Avatar plus animals.”
Rating: 9/10
8. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
- Park: Magic Kingdom
- Height: 40 in / 102 cm
- Best for: Families, Disney music, hot Florida afternoons
- Biggest fear factor: The final drop
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure combines a scenic water ride with music and characters from The Princess and the Frog, building toward its biggest thrill: a 50-foot drop. Disney’s attraction page confirms both the 40-inch height requirement and the 50-foot finale.
It fills an unusually useful middle ground.
Most of the journey is relaxed and story-driven, but the big final drop gives older children and adults enough excitement to keep it from feeling like a little-kids’ ride.
Will you get wet?
Possibly. Disney says there’s a strong chance.
How wet varies, which is why we wouldn’t ride it five minutes before a restaurant reservation in nice clothes.
Important late-2026 planning note
Disney says Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will close temporarily for routine refurbishment on November 2, 2026, and is expected to reopen in December 2026.
If you’re visiting during that period, check the official calendar before planning your day around it.
Worth queuing?
Yes, especially for families who want something more adventurous than a dark ride but less aggressive than TRON.
Rating: 8.5/10
9. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
- Park: Hollywood Studios
- Height: Any height
- Best for: Families, and anyone who wants a modern Disney ride without a thrill requirement
Runaway Railway is one of the rides we’d recommend to a group whose ages and bravery levels vary wildly.
There is no minimum height, but it still feels modern, not like a compromise attraction for small children.
Trackless vehicles move through cartoon environments while scenes shift unexpectedly around you.
It’s colorful, playful and inventive enough for adults while staying accessible to preschoolers.
Is it worth a huge queue?
Here’s where we’re less enthusiastic.
It’s excellent at a reasonable wait.
At an enormous wait, we’d put Rise of the Resistance first instead.
Our verdict
One of Disney World’s best multigenerational rides.
Rating: 8.5/10
10. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
- Park: Magic Kingdom
- Height: 38 in / 97 cm
- Best for: Families, children moving up to bigger coasters
- Intensity: Moderate
Big Thunder is the kind of attraction theme parks can lose by always chasing bigger technology.
It’s simply a very good themed roller coaster.
The runaway mine train dives through tunnels, sweeps through canyons and rattles around the mountain without becoming frightening enough to rule out many younger children.
In 2026 it is a good one to ride again, because it has come back from a major refurbishment with new elements, including the Rainbow Caverns. Disney lists the height requirement as 38 inches / 97 cm.
Is Big Thunder good as a child’s first coaster?
Often, yes.
We’d place it a step above the gentler Seven Dwarfs Mine Train in intensity, but far below Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster.
Best time to ride
After dark is excellent.
The mountain, lighting and views feel noticeably more atmospheric.
Worth waiting?
Yes, at a reasonable wait.
We wouldn’t give up a huge chunk of the day for it if Guardians, Rise or Flight of Passage were competing for the same vacation time.
Our verdict
A Disney classic that still earns its place.
Rating: 8.5/10
11. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure
- Park: EPCOT
- Height: Any height
- Best for: Families, Ratatouille fans
- Watch out for: Screen-based movement can bother sensitive riders
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure shrinks you to rat size for a dash through Gusteau’s restaurant.
Trackless ride vehicles let scenes flow in several directions, while large screens and oversized physical sets create the illusion that you’re tiny.
It’s especially valuable at EPCOT because everyone can ride.
That matters in a park where Guardians has a 42-inch minimum and Test Track is another thrill-oriented headliner.
Motion sickness?
Possible.
It’s not an aggressive attraction, but the mix of a moving vehicle and large-screen sequences can bother people who struggle with simulators.
Worth a very long queue?
This is where we’d be disciplined.
Great ride. Not an any-length wait.
If the line is severe, use Lightning Lane, come back later or do something else first.
Our verdict
A near-perfect family ride, especially if you already love the film.
Rating: 8.5/10
12. Haunted Mansion
- Park: Magic Kingdom
- Height: Any height
- Best for: Disney history, families with children who aren’t frightened by spooky imagery
- Intensity: Physically very gentle
Haunted Mansion is proof that “best ride” doesn’t have to mean “new ride.”
You travel through a wonderfully theatrical haunted estate full of ghosts, visual tricks and classic Disney Imagineering.
Mechanically, it’s gentle.
Atmospherically, it can be spooky enough that very young children hesitate.
Is Haunted Mansion actually frightening?
Adults: generally no.
Small children: possibly.
The ride doesn’t rely on gore or aggressive horror, but darkness, ghosts, eerie narration and a stretching-room pre-show can feel more sinister when you’re five.
Worth waiting?
Yes, but you often don’t need to put up with the same waits as Disney’s modern headliners.
This is exactly the kind of attraction we’d save for a quieter part of the day instead of sprinting to it at park opening.
Our verdict
One of the rides we’d hate to see Disney ever “modernize” beyond recognition.
Rating: 8.5/10
13. Slinky Dog Dash
- Park: Hollywood Studios
- Height: 38 in / 97 cm
- Best for: Families and younger coaster fans
Slinky Dog Dash looks cute.
It is cute.
It’s also a better roller coaster than many adults expect.
The Toy Story coaster has launches, sweeping outdoor turns and enough speed to excite children without becoming an extreme ride.
Disney lists a 38-inch / 97-cm requirement.
The problem isn’t the ride. It’s the queue.
Slinky is popular because it sits in a sweet spot:
- children can ride it
- adults enjoy it
- Toy Story is hugely familiar
- it isn’t scary enough to split many families
That combination can produce waits that are hard to justify for the ride you get.
Worth queuing?
At a sensible wait, absolutely. At an enormous wait, no.
This is one of our clearest Lightning Lane-instead-of-heroic-standby attractions. It sits in Hollywood Studios’ top Multi Pass group.
Our verdict
An excellent family coaster, and occasionally a poor use of two hours.
Rating: 8/10
14. Pirates of the Caribbean
- Park: Magic Kingdom
- Height: Any height
- Best for: Almost everyone
Pirates is another ride whose age doesn’t make it irrelevant.
You board a boat and drift through elaborate pirate scenes that combine sets, music, darkness, characters and a small drop.
Disney lists Pirates as an any-height ride with dark sections and small drops.
The key advantage is how much atmosphere you get without leaving anyone behind because of their height.
Is Pirates scary for young children?
Possibly, but usually less so than Haunted Mansion.
There are skeletons, darkness, cannon-fire effects and pirates behaving like pirates.
The physical ride is gentle.
Worth waiting?
At 20 to 30 minutes? Easily.
At a huge wait? No.
It’s a classic you should experience, not a test of endurance.
Our verdict
Still one of Magic Kingdom’s essential attractions.
Rating: 8/10
15. Frozen Ever After
- Park: EPCOT
- Height: Any height
- Best for: Frozen fans, families with young children
Frozen Ever After is a beautifully produced boat ride through Arendelle with familiar characters and songs.
It also plays an important practical role at EPCOT: it’s a popular headline attraction the whole family can ride, whatever their height.
Is it worth waiting an hour?
For a child obsessed with Elsa: probably.
For two adults who are indifferent to Frozen: we’d spend that hour elsewhere.
That’s the point of a ride ranking.
Not every technically impressive attraction is worth the same to every visitor.
Our verdict
8/10 for Frozen families.
More like 7/10 if the film means nothing to you.
The best rides at Magic Kingdom
If you’re planning one Magic Kingdom day, our ride priorities are:
- TRON Lightcycle / Run
- Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
- Haunted Mansion
- Pirates of the Caribbean
- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
- Space Mountain
- Jungle Cruise
- Peter Pan’s Flight
- Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin
Disney’s Lightning Lane setup hints at expected demand. TRON and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train are the Single Pass attractions, while Big Thunder, Jungle Cruise, Peter Pan’s Flight, Space Mountain and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure make up Magic Kingdom’s top Multi Pass group.
But demand and quality are not the same thing.
That matters most for Seven Dwarfs and Peter Pan.
Is Seven Dwarfs Mine Train worth the wait?
Usually, but not at any cost in time.
It’s an exceptionally smooth family coaster with swinging ride cars and a lovely indoor mine scene.
Children who find Space Mountain intimidating often adore it.
Disney sets the height requirement at 38 inches / 97 cm.
Our issue is simply that demand can exceed what the ride delivers.
If we’re choosing between a very long Seven Dwarfs line and spending that time on Haunted Mansion and Pirates, we’d often take the latter.
Best for
Families with younger coaster riders.
Overall
An 8/10 attraction, but often a 6/10 wait-to-fun ratio.
Is Space Mountain still worth riding?
Yes, with a qualification.
Space Mountain is iconic because the darkness turns a fairly modest coaster track into something much less predictable.
You can’t see exactly where the next turn is coming from.
Disney requires riders to be 44 inches / 112 cm tall.
But anyone used to modern roller coasters may find it rougher and less sophisticated than Guardians or TRON.
Our verdict
Ride it because it’s Space Mountain, not because it’s Disney World’s most advanced coaster.
8/10
Is Peter Pan’s Flight worth a long queue?
For nostalgia? Yes.
For pure ride value? Usually no.
Peter Pan’s Flight is a charming suspended dark ride with no height requirement.
But it is short and technically simple, and the demand comes from nostalgia, family accessibility and fairly limited capacity.
If the standby wait is huge, this is one of the first classics we’d move to Lightning Lane or skip.
The best rides at EPCOT
Our ranking:
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
- Test Track
- Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure
- Frozen Ever After
- Soarin'
- Spaceship Earth
- Living with the Land
- Mission: SPACE
- The Seas with Nemo & Friends
- Gran Fiesta Tour
All ten are on Disney’s current EPCOT attraction list. Guardians is the park’s Single Pass ride, and Frozen Ever After, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and Test Track form its top Multi Pass group.
Test Track: worth prioritizing again
Test Track is back in its redesigned form, which makes it a stronger priority than articles written during its long closure suggest.
The core appeal is still the mix of automotive technology and a high-speed outdoor finale, but the experience has been rebuilt around ideas of mobility and transportation. Riders need to be 40 inches / 102 cm tall.
For an adult or teenager, we’d place it just below Guardians in EPCOT ride priority.
Our verdict
8.5/10
Soarin’: still one of Disney’s best gentle thrills
Soarin’ lifts you in front of a huge projection dome and creates the feeling of flying above landscapes.
It’s physically gentle but surprisingly effective.
It’s also a particularly useful recommendation for multigenerational groups: exciting enough for adults, approachable for plenty of visitors who won’t touch a roller coaster. The height requirement is 40 inches / 102 cm.
In 2026, Disney is running Soarin’ Across America, a limited-time version tied to America’s 250th-anniversary celebrations, so check which version is showing on your travel date instead of trusting an older guide.
Our verdict
8/10
The best rides at Hollywood Studios
Our priorities:
- Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
- Tower of Terror
- Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets
- Slinky Dog Dash
- Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
- Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
- Toy Story Mania!
- Star Tours
Hollywood Studios is arguably Walt Disney World’s strongest park ride for ride.
The weakness is quantity.
When several headline rides have long waits at the same time, you have fewer short-line alternatives than at Magic Kingdom.
Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster is now a Muppets ride
This is one detail where older Disney World articles are already out of date.
The Aerosmith version has been replaced by Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets.
Disney lists it with a 48-inch / 122-cm height requirement, and the ride keeps its three inversions: two rollover loops and a corkscrew.
The coaster is still one of Disney World’s most intense rides.
Expect a forceful launch, darkness and inversions.
Is it scarier than Guardians?
Physically, we’d say yes.
Guardians is smoother and more flowing.
Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster is more obviously an aggressive roller coaster.
Our verdict
8.5/10
Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
Smugglers Run lets your group fly the Millennium Falcon on an interactive mission, currently alongside the Mandalorian and Grogu.
The clever part is that riders have roles: pilots, gunners and engineers, up to six people per cockpit.
The frustrating part is exactly the same thing.
Your experience can depend on where you sit and how well the pilots do.
Disney lists a 38-inch / 97-cm height requirement.
Worth a long queue?
For a Star Wars fan, yes, once.
For everyone else, we rank Rise much higher.
Our verdict
8/10, possibly more if you’re piloting.
Toy Story Mania!
A rare Disney ride where grandparents can become terrifyingly competitive.
Toy Story Mania! is an interactive shooting game with 3D screens and moving ride vehicles.
It has no height requirement, which makes it one of Hollywood Studios’ best family options.
Worth queueing?
At a reasonable wait, yes.
And unlike many screen rides, it’s very repeatable, because you’ll immediately want to beat your score.
8/10
The best rides at Animal Kingdom
Our ranking:
- Avatar Flight of Passage
- Kilimanjaro Safaris
- Expedition Everest
- Na’vi River Journey
- Kali River Rapids
Animal Kingdom doesn’t have as many rides as Magic Kingdom.
But its top three are strong enough that we’d happily build a park day around them.
Disney sells Flight of Passage separately as a Single Pass attraction, while Expedition Everest, Kilimanjaro Safaris, Kali River Rapids and Na’vi River Journey are among the park’s Multi Pass experiences.
Is Na’vi River Journey worth it?
Yes, if the wait is reasonable.
It’s a serene boat ride through Pandora’s glowing bioluminescent forest, and it looks gorgeous.
But it is not an Avatar version of Pirates of the Caribbean with a big storyline and several major scenes.
It’s much more atmospheric than eventful.
Our verdict
A beautiful ride, often with a questionable line.
7.5/10
Kali River Rapids
A circular raft ride through white water, for riders 38 inches / 97 cm and taller.
The main question is not whether the ride is good.
It’s whether you are willing to spend the next hour looking as though you fell into a swimming pool.
Some riders escape with a splash.
Others learn the meaning of hydrology.
When we’d ride
A hot Florida afternoon, in quick-drying clothes.
When we wouldn’t
Right before dinner.
7.5/10
Best Disney World rides for thrill seekers
If adrenaline is your priority, we’d rank them:
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
- TRON Lightcycle / Run
- Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets
- Tower of Terror
- Expedition Everest
- Space Mountain
- Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
- Test Track
- Slinky Dog Dash
But those rides deliver very different kinds of thrill.
Best for speed
TRON
Best complete coaster experience
Guardians
Best for inversions
Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster
Best for drops
Tower of Terror
Best outdoor coaster
Expedition Everest
Best family coaster
Big Thunder or Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
Best Disney World rides for young children
Height requirements reshape a Disney plan completely when you’re traveling with preschoolers.
Our favorite any-height rides:
- Kilimanjaro Safaris
- Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
- Pirates of the Caribbean
- Haunted Mansion
- Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure
- Frozen Ever After
- Toy Story Mania!
- Peter Pan’s Flight
- The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
- Under the Sea – Journey of The Little Mermaid
- Dumbo the Flying Elephant
- “it’s a small world”
- The Seas with Nemo & Friends
- Spaceship Earth
Magic Kingdom is still the best park for families with children below the big coaster height requirements, because so many attractions can be ridden together. Our Disney World parks compared guide shows how to plan the other parks around a small child, and Orlando with toddlers covers the rest of the trip.
Disney World rides by height requirement
These are the requirements most useful to know before you tell a child they can ride something.
| Ride | Minimum height |
|---|---|

We checked every requirement in this table against Disney’s attraction listings for all four parks in October 2026.
Always check Disney’s attraction page right before you travel, because requirements and operating status can change.
Which Disney rides are most likely to cause motion sickness?
This is subjective, but there are clear categories.
Highest motion-sickness risk
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
Rotating cars plus roller-coaster motion.
For sensitive riders, probably the biggest warning on this list.
Mission: SPACE
Especially the more intense version.
We would not use Mission: SPACE to test whether somebody has “gotten over” motion sickness.
Star Tours
A motion simulator.
Avatar Flight of Passage
Very convincing simulated flight with a huge field of view.
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure
Gentler, but some screen sections create a mismatch between what your eyes and body sense.
More about fear than sickness
- Tower of Terror
- Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster
- TRON
- Expedition Everest
- Space Mountain
If your problem is drops and not nausea, Tower of Terror deserves much more caution than Remy.
Which Disney rides aren’t worth a huge queue?
This is where we’re most willing to disagree with wait-time popularity.
Peter Pan’s Flight
Charming and historic.
Also short.
Do it, just don’t lose a huge part of the day doing it.
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
A very good family coaster.
Its line often behaves as if it were the greatest ride ever built.
It isn’t.
Slinky Dog Dash
Same problem.
An excellent ride whose appeal to families creates outsized demand.
Na’vi River Journey
Beautiful.
Not eventful enough to justify an extreme wait, unless Pandora itself is the main reason you’re visiting.
Jungle Cruise
Fun largely because of the skipper’s jokes.
The experience doesn’t get twice as good because you waited twice as long.
Which rides are worth an unusually long wait?
Our shortlist is much shorter:
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
- Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
- Avatar Flight of Passage
- TRON Lightcycle / Run, if you otherwise won’t ride it
- Kilimanjaro Safaris, on a first Animal Kingdom visit
Even then, we’d rather use smart timing or Lightning Lane than spend vacation hours standing still.
“Worth the wait” should be the emergency fallback, not the touring plan.
Best rides to rope-drop
“Rope drop” means arriving before regular opening so you’re ready to go in as the park starts operating.
If you’re not buying Lightning Lane for everything, this is one of the most effective ways to tackle a major ride.
Magic Kingdom
Consider:
- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
- Peter Pan’s Flight
- Space Mountain
The best TRON plan depends on the entry and Lightning Lane setup on your travel date.
EPCOT
Go first to:
- Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, if entering from the International Gateway
- Test Track
- Frozen Ever After
Guardians needs separate planning, because Disney’s access systems for it have changed over time.
Hollywood Studios
Go first to:
- Rise of the Resistance
- Slinky Dog Dash
Animal Kingdom
Go first to:
- Flight of Passage
This is probably the clearest rope-drop decision at Walt Disney World.
Which rides are worth Lightning Lane?
Disney’s system now has three paid passes, Multi Pass, Single Pass and Premier Pass, sold only in the My Disney Experience app, so old articles about FastPass+ or Genie+ are no use for current planning.
As of October 2026, Disney lists:
- TRON Lightcycle / Run and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train as Magic Kingdom’s Single Pass attractions
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind as EPCOT’s Single Pass attraction
- Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance as Hollywood Studios’ Single Pass attraction
- Avatar Flight of Passage as Animal Kingdom’s Single Pass attraction
- separate Multi Pass groups for the other participating rides in each park
Single Passes are limited to two per day, Premier Pass is sold in limited quantities, and prices vary by date and park. The participating attractions can change, so check the Lightning Lane page and the app for your visit. Lightning Lane is sold only by Disney, not on GetYourGuide.
Our priority for paid queue skipping
Highest value candidates
Rise of the Resistance: a major attraction where standby time can eat a big part of the day.
Flight of Passage: especially useful if you don’t want to arrive very early.
Guardians: a ride we’d hate to miss.
TRON: the short ride makes skipping a very long standby line especially appealing.
Multi Pass works especially well at Magic Kingdom
Magic Kingdom simply has enough participating rides for the time savings to add up.
Its top Multi Pass group is Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Jungle Cruise, Peter Pan’s Flight, Space Mountain and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.
If you only have one day at each park
Don’t try to ride everything. If you’re still deciding which parks to visit, our Disney World parks compared guide sets out which park suits which group, and a Disney Park Hopper ticket lets you split a day between two of them.
Magic Kingdom: our must-do six
- TRON
- Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
- Big Thunder Mountain
- Haunted Mansion
- Pirates of the Caribbean
- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
Add Space Mountain if thrills matter more than classic dark rides.
EPCOT: our must-do five
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
- Test Track
- Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure
- Frozen Ever After
- Soarin'
Then stop chasing rides and enjoy World Showcase.
That’s important.
EPCOT gets worse when you treat it only as a ride checklist.
Hollywood Studios: our must-do six
- Rise of the Resistance
- Tower of Terror
- Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets
- Slinky Dog Dash
- Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
- Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
This is the park where a plan for the lines matters most.
Animal Kingdom: our must-do five
- Flight of Passage
- Kilimanjaro Safaris
- Expedition Everest
- Na’vi River Journey
- One major show, ideally Festival of the Lion King
That last one isn’t technically a ride, but skipping Animal Kingdom’s live entertainment just to tick off another attraction is a poor trade.

Are Disney World rides actually scary?
Compared with thrill-focused parks, Walt Disney World is fairly gentle.
Disney’s strength is not building the tallest or fastest roller coaster in Florida.
Universal and specialist coaster parks can outdo Disney on raw intensity; see our best rides at Universal Orlando and Universal Orlando tickets pages if that’s what your group wants.
Disney’s advantage is combining rides with environments, storytelling, music and characters.
That’s why Rise of the Resistance can be one of the world’s most impressive theme-park attractions without being anywhere near its most extreme.
If you’re nervous, the rough fear ladder looks like this:
Very gentle
- “it’s a small world”
- Winnie the Pooh
- Under the Sea
- Pirates of the Caribbean
- Kilimanjaro Safaris
Gentle with some sensory intensity
- Haunted Mansion
- Frozen Ever After
- Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure
- Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
- Toy Story Mania!
Beginner thrills
- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
- Slinky Dog Dash
- Big Thunder Mountain
- Test Track
Proper thrill rides
- Rise of the Resistance
- Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
- Space Mountain
- Flight of Passage
- Expedition Everest
Most intense Disney rides
- TRON Lightcycle / Run
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
- Tower of Terror
- Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets
But “intense” means different things.
If you hate drops, Tower of Terror might be your nightmare.
If you hate spinning, Guardians could be worse.
If you dislike inversions, Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster is the obvious one to avoid.
Can adults ride Disney World rides without children?
Absolutely.
Disney World’s best modern attractions (Guardians, Rise, Flight of Passage, TRON and Tower of Terror) are at least as compelling for adults as for children.
What changes on an adults-only trip is not whether you ride.
It’s what you can skip.
Two adults with no nostalgia for Peter Pan don’t need to stand in a giant line because a guide calls it a “must-do.”
Spend the hour somewhere you care about.
What about Rider Switch?
Families with a child who can’t or doesn’t want to ride certain attractions should look into Rider Switch.
It lets eligible groups avoid both adults standing through the full standby line separately while one stays with the child who isn’t riding.
It’s particularly useful for attractions such as:
- Guardians
- TRON
- Flight of Passage
- Expedition Everest
- Tower of Terror
- Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster
Check Disney’s current Rider Switch rules before your trip, because procedures can change.
Our final Disney World ride ranking
If we were planning an Orlando trip around rides alone:
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
- Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
- Avatar Flight of Passage
- TRON Lightcycle / Run
- Kilimanjaro Safaris
- Tower of Terror
- Expedition Everest
- Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
- Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
- Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure
- Haunted Mansion
- Slinky Dog Dash
- Pirates of the Caribbean
- Frozen Ever After
- Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets
- Test Track
- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
- Soarin'
- Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
- Toy Story Mania!
- Space Mountain
- Na’vi River Journey
- Jungle Cruise
- Peter Pan’s Flight
The bottom of that ranking doesn’t mean “bad.”
Disney World’s problem is the opposite.
Even some attractions we’d rank outside the top 20 have lines long enough to eat an hour.
The trick is knowing which experiences you care about before you arrive.
The bottom line
If you want one simple rule for choosing Disney World rides, use this: wait longest for rides you can’t experience anywhere else.
That’s why we’d put Guardians, Rise of the Resistance, Flight of Passage and Kilimanjaro Safaris first.
They’re not simply good rides.
They are experiences that help justify choosing Walt Disney World over another Orlando theme park.
Then build the rest of the day around your group.
Traveling with preschoolers? Forget someone else’s coaster ranking and focus on Magic Kingdom’s excellent any-height attractions.
Traveling with teenagers? Hollywood Studios becomes far more important.
Adults? Guardians may be the best few minutes of the trip, but don’t spend six hours chasing rides around EPCOT and forget to enjoy World Showcase.
And whatever you do, don’t judge a ride’s quality by the length of its line.
Sometimes a 20-minute wait for Pirates of the Caribbean is a much better use of your vacation than 100 minutes for a three-minute family coaster. For tickets, our Disney World tickets guide compares the base ticket, Park Hopper and Park Hopper Plus.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best ride at Disney World?
Our pick is Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT. Its rotating coaster cars, reverse launch, music and large indoor show scenes make it unlike a conventional roller coaster. Disney requires riders to be at least 42 inches / 107 cm tall.
What is the best ride at Magic Kingdom?
For thrills, TRON Lightcycle / Run. For the best classic Disney experience, we’d choose Haunted Mansion. For families, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has an excellent balance of thrill and accessibility.
What is the best ride at EPCOT?
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, comfortably.
What is the best ride at Hollywood Studios?
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. Tower of Terror is our runner-up.
What is the best ride at Animal Kingdom?
Avatar Flight of Passage, if you’re judging rides conventionally. But Kilimanjaro Safaris is arguably the park’s most important attraction, because it offers something the other Disney parks can’t.
What is the scariest ride at Disney World?
That depends on what scares you. Tower of Terror is probably the strongest choice for people who hate drops. Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster is among the strongest traditional coaster experiences. Guardians can be particularly hard on motion-sensitive riders.
What is the fastest-feeling Disney World ride?
TRON Lightcycle / Run has a very effective launch and sense of speed, while Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster also has a powerful launch. Disney describes TRON as one of the fastest coasters at any Disney theme park.
What Disney World rides have no height requirement?
Many of Disney World’s classic family attractions have no minimum height, including Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, Peter Pan’s Flight, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Toy Story Mania!, Frozen Ever After, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and Kilimanjaro Safaris. Disney’s current listings show all of these as any-height attractions.
Which park has the best rides?
Hollywood Studios has the strongest concentration of headline rides. Magic Kingdom has the most variety. EPCOT has our favorite single coaster. Animal Kingdom has fewer rides but an exceptionally strong top three.
Is Lightning Lane worth buying just for rides?
It can be, especially at Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, where several popular attractions compete for a limited day. At Animal Kingdom, we’d first decide how much Flight of Passage matters before buying a broader line-skipping pass.
