Best Rides at Universal Orlando: Which Are Worth the Wait?
The 15 best rides at Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe, ranked with heights, thrill levels, motion-sickness warnings and what to ride first.

Universal Orlando now has so many big rides across Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe that trying to do everything is a poor plan. Know which rides stand out, and build the trip around them. If we could send a first-time visitor on only five, we’d choose Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, Jurassic World VelociCoaster, Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry, Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment and Stardust Racers.
Epic Universe now holds several of Universal Orlando’s best rides, but Islands of Adventure still has the strongest concentration of top thrill rides. Traveling with younger kids? Swap VelociCoaster and Stardust Racers for Mine-Cart Madness and Hiccup’s Wing Gliders.
Every ride below needs park admission, which Universal sells. On busy dates you can skip much of the wait at the two original parks with the Universal Orlando Resort 2-Park Express Pass (from around $133 per person, rated 4.2/5 from more than 300 reviews); it does not cover Epic Universe. Check the price for your date before you book, because it rises on busy days.
Add-on: Universal 2-Park Express Pass

Our top 5 Universal Orlando rides
These are the five we’d be most disappointed to miss on a first visit.
1. Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure
Park: Islands of Adventure · Land: The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade · Minimum height: 48 in / 122 cm · Best for: Potter fans, coaster fans and people who think they don’t like roller coasters
If we could ride only one attraction at Universal Orlando, it would be Hagrid’s. It isn’t the tallest or the fastest. Almost every element works together: scenery, launches, storytelling, unusual track sections, physical sets and the choice of riding the motorbike or the sidecar. Universal describes it as a journey deep into the Forbidden Forest on Hagrid’s flying motorbike, meeting magical creatures along the way, and that undersells it. It feels like an adventure first and a roller coaster second.
Why it’s so good. Many heavily themed coasters lose the story the moment the train speeds up. On Hagrid’s the story keeps going: you meet creatures, feel bursts of acceleration and changes of direction, and hit a couple of moments we won’t spoil for first-time riders.
Is Hagrid’s scary? Moderately. It is fast and has several launches, but none of VelociCoaster’s huge exposed height. If you can handle a fairly strong roller coaster but dislike big drops, try Hagrid’s first.
Motorbike or sidecar? The motorbike is more exposed and usually feels more exciting. The sidecar is lower, a little more enclosed and may suit you better if you’re nervous. Both run on the same track.
Is it worth a long wait? Yes, within reason. On a first visit this is one of the few rides where we’d accept a long queue.
Verdict: must ride.
2. Jurassic World VelociCoaster
Park: Islands of Adventure · Land: Jurassic Park · Minimum height: 51 in / 130 cm · Best for: coaster enthusiasts, teens, thrill seekers
VelociCoaster is the ride for people who find Hagrid’s charming but want something far more aggressive. It is a modern launch coaster with speed, inversions, airtime, and moments where the track seems to fall away beneath you. The setting is the Jurassic World raptor paddock, and there is no gentle introduction to the dinosaurs: you are launched past them.
Why VelociCoaster stands out. Many big theme-park coasters have one defining moment. VelociCoaster has several, and it builds instead of peaking early, ending with a memorable sequence near the lagoon. The Jurassic World setting stays in view for much of the ride, so it never feels like a bare steel coaster with franchise decoration around it.
Is VelociCoaster scary? Yes. It is one of Universal Orlando’s most intense rides. Expect high speed, inversions, repeated airtime, strong acceleration, a tall outdoor section and moments where you lift out of your seat. If Hagrid’s is your first serious coaster and it overwhelms you, don’t assume VelociCoaster is only slightly harder; it is a big step up.
Is it worth the queue? For coaster fans, absolutely. If you dislike big coasters, there’s no reason to force yourself onto it because rankings call it one of Universal’s best.
Verdict: must ride for thrill seekers; an easy skip if you hate coasters.
3. Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry
Park: Epic Universe · Land: The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic · Minimum height: 40 in / 102 cm · Best for: Harry Potter fans, dark-ride fans, families with older children
Epic Universe needed a Potter ride that felt different from the ones Universal had already built, and this is it. You go from wizarding Paris into the British Ministry of Magic around the time of Dolores Umbridge’s trial, then board a magical lift and travel through the Ministry with Harry, Ron and Hermione. Universal classes it as a thrill and motion-simulation ride.
Why it makes the top three. The ride starts before you board. The Ministry interiors are among the most elaborate spaces Universal has built, and the ride then uses unusual movement instead of parking you in front of one screen after another. Universal has plenty of screen-heavy rides; Battle at the Ministry feels much more like being carried through a real place.
Should non-Potter fans ride it? Yes. Knowing the characters helps, but the sets, scale and ride system work without every reference.
Is it scary? Less so than VelociCoaster or Stardust Racers. Expect movement, drops and chaotic action, not coaster fear.
Motion sickness? Possible. If rides that mix physical movement with projections bother you, approach with care, although this is not a stationary simulator.
Verdict: essential at Epic Universe.
4. Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment
Park: Epic Universe · Land: Dark Universe · Minimum height: 48 in / 122 cm · Best for: practical effects, animatronics, horror atmosphere and riders tired of screens
This may be the ride that surprises first-time visitors most. It uses Universal’s classic monsters instead of a modern blockbuster, and that turns out to help: the ride doesn’t have to recreate a film scene you already know. Dr. Victoria Frankenstein’s attempt to control the monsters goes wrong, and Dracula and familiar creatures, including the Wolf Man, the Mummy and the Creature from the Black Lagoon, get loose. Universal lists it as a thrill and motion-simulation ride.
What makes it special. Physical spectacle. Universal has filled the ride with elaborate sets, creature figures and practical effects. One example from Universal’s ride page: the Phantom of the Opera’s organ has 12 flame points that shoot flames about 3 feet into the air. Details like that set it apart from a conventional simulator.
Is it frightening? In atmosphere, yes: monsters, darkness, sudden movement and threatening imagery. But this is theatrical horror, not a Halloween Horror Nights haunted house. You ride through a controlled attraction; nobody chases you.
Is it worth riding if you don’t care about classic monsters? Very much. The ride system and staging are reason enough.
Verdict: one of Epic Universe’s must-rides.
5. Stardust Racers
Park: Epic Universe · Land: Celestial Park · Minimum height: 48 in / 122 cm · Top speed: up to 62 mph · Maximum height: up to 133 feet · Best for: coaster fans
Stardust Racers is hard to ignore. Two trains launch into Celestial Park and race along about 5,000 feet of track at up to 62 mph and up to 133 feet high, according to Universal. The signature moment is the Celestial Spin, where the two tracks meet in an inverted crossover.
Stardust Racers vs VelociCoaster. If you ride only one, we give VelociCoaster a slight edge for variety and theming. Stardust Racers has something VelociCoaster lacks, though: two trains racing, so you keep watching the other train flash into view and disappear.
Front, back or middle? Preferences are personal, but in general the front gives the strongest sense of speed and a clear view, the back often feels more aggressive over crests and drops, and the middle suits you if you want the ride without the most intensity.
Ride it again at night. If you have time for a repeat, save it for after dark, when the lights of Celestial Park make it feel noticeably different.
Is it scary? Yes. This is a serious coaster with launches and inversions. If big coasters make you nervous, Hagrid’s or Hiccup’s Wing Gliders are better first steps.
Verdict: essential for coaster fans.
Rides 6 to 10
6. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
Park: Islands of Adventure · Land: Hogsmeade · Minimum height: 48 in / 122 cm · Best for: Potter fans · Biggest caution: motion sickness
Forbidden Journey isn’t new, but it isn’t obsolete either. It sits inside Hogwarts Castle, and the walk through the castle matters as much as the ride. Even with Diagon Alley and the Ministry of Magic now open, it remains one of the resort’s defining Harry Potter experiences.
What is the ride like? A robotic-arm ride system carries you through physical scenery and large projected scenes. The movement can be surprisingly forceful: you tilt, rotate and feel as if you’re flying with Harry.
Motion-sickness warning. This is the Universal ride we’d most strongly flag for anyone prone to simulator sickness. Screens, rapid transitions, tilting, darkness and physical movement together can bother people who are fine on ordinary coasters.
Is it still worth riding? For Potter fans, absolutely. If you’re very motion sensitive, you can walk through the Hogwarts queue and leave before boarding, which shows you a large part of the castle without the ride.
Verdict: a must for Potter fans; motion-sensitive visitors should think twice.
7. Revenge of the Mummy
Park: Universal Studios Florida · Land: New York · Minimum height: 48 in / 122 cm · Best for: indoor coaster fans
Revenge of the Mummy is still excellent without being new. Universal describes it as a high-speed indoor thrill ride where you race forwards and backwards through darkness to escape Imhotep, with warrior mummies, insects and fire effects.
Why it still works. Mummy is compact, fast and theatrical, and it paces itself well. Instead of firing you through a dark warehouse, it keeps switching between coaster sections and show scenes.
Is it scarier than Hagrid’s? We’d call Mummy more claustrophobic but less physically extreme. Hagrid’s is faster and bigger in scale; Mummy is darker, louder and more enclosed.
Worth a reride? Yes. Queues permitting, it is one of our favorite Universal rides to repeat because it doesn’t take the time of a big flagship ride.
Verdict: don’t skip it at Universal Studios Florida.
8. Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts
Park: Universal Studios Florida · Land: Diagon Alley · Minimum height: 42 in / 107 cm · Best for: Potter fans, families with older children
Escape from Gringotts looks as if it might be a huge roller coaster. It isn’t. Think of it as a dark ride with coaster sections, which is useful to know if someone in your group is nervous. It has drops and bursts of movement but is much less intimidating than VelociCoaster, Hulk or Stardust Racers.
The queue is part of the ride. Walk into Gringotts Bank and the goblin-filled banking hall sets the scale straight away. Don’t rush through the queue just because it’s moving quickly.
Is Gringotts scary? For many children the darkness and villains are more intimidating than the movement. Physically it is a manageable introduction to Universal’s thrill rides.
Is it worth a long wait? Yes for Potter fans. If you have no interest in Harry Potter, accept a shorter queue here than for Hagrid’s or Monsters Unchained.
Verdict: essential if Diagon Alley is one of your reasons for visiting.
9. Mine-Cart Madness
Park: Epic Universe · Land: SUPER NINTENDO WORLD – Donkey Kong Country · Minimum height: 40 in / 102 cm · Best for: families, Nintendo fans, moderate-thrill riders
Mine-Cart Madness has one brilliant trick: the cart seems to jump broken sections of track, just like the mine-cart levels in the Donkey Kong games. Universal describes it as a family coaster where the vehicle appears to leap the track and pull exaggerated Donkey Kong-style moves.
Who will enjoy it most? Children who have outgrown kiddie coasters but aren’t ready for VelociCoaster. Adults who grew up playing Donkey Kong will probably enjoy it even more, because the visual trick is so recognizable.
Is it rough? The unusual movement can feel more abrupt than the family-coaster label suggests. It isn’t extreme, but don’t expect a sleepy scenic ride.
Better than Mario Kart? As a ride, yes, in our view. Mario Kart has the stronger game element; Mine-Cart Madness has the stronger physical ride.
Verdict: very good, especially for families.
10. The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man
Park: Islands of Adventure · Land: Marvel Super Hero Island · Minimum height: 40 in / 102 cm · Best for: families, superhero fans, dark-ride fans
Spider-Man helped set the modern template for combining moving ride vehicles, physical sets and projected film, and decades later it still works. Spider-Man tries to stop a gang of villains while your vehicle keeps getting dragged into the chaos.
Why it’s still worth riding. The screens aren’t the whole ride. Your vehicle travels through elaborate sets, which gives it a sense of forward movement that many newer simulators lack.
Better than Transformers? Yes. Transformers at Universal Studios Florida uses a related ride system, but Spider-Man feels cleaner, more coherent and less relentlessly noisy. If you have time for one, ride Spider-Man.
Verdict: one of Universal’s best family-friendly dark rides.
Rides 11 to 15
11. Hiccup’s Wing Gliders
Park: Epic Universe · Land: How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk · Minimum height: 40 in / 102 cm · Best for: families, moderate coaster fans
Hiccup’s Wing Gliders sits in a useful middle ground: more exciting than a basic children’s coaster, far less intimidating than Stardust Racers. Universal describes Hiccup’s flying contraption sending riders swooping above and around the Isle of Berk.
Why we rank it highly. The scenery. Berk is one of Epic Universe’s prettiest lands, and the coaster uses it instead of hiding you indoors. It’s a family coaster adults enjoy too, not one parents merely put up with.
Verdict: a strong family must-do.
12. Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge
Park: Epic Universe · Land: SUPER NINTENDO WORLD · Minimum height: 40 in / 102 cm · Best for: Nintendo fans, interactive rides · Not for: visitors expecting a fast racing ride
The most important thing to know: Mario Kart is not a high-speed racing ride. You travel through Mario Kart courses, aim shells and collect digital coins while trying to beat Team Bowser, in sets built to look like the game.
Why some visitors love it. It turns a familiar video game into a physical place.
Why others are underwhelmed. “Mario Kart ride” sounds like something that should accelerate hard around corners, and this doesn’t. The appeal is interactivity, visual chaos and game mechanics.
How to approach it. Judge it as an interactive dark ride, not a racing simulator, and you’ll probably enjoy it much more.
Verdict: a must for Nintendo fans; good for everyone else.
13. The Incredible Hulk Coaster
Park: Islands of Adventure · Land: Marvel Super Hero Island · Minimum height: 54 in / 138 cm · Best for: riders who enjoy forceful looping coasters
Hulk is the opposite of Hagrid’s, with very little storytelling. You launch, invert, twist and spend much of the ride feeling strong positive G-forces. Universal lists a top speed of up to 67 mph.
Who should ride Hulk? People who see a giant green coaster looping over the park entrance and think “yes”.
Who should skip it? Anyone who dislikes inversions, forceful turns, firm over-the-shoulder restraints or high-G rides. VelociCoaster is newer and, for us, much better overall, but Hulk still has its own physical intensity.
Verdict: ride it if you love coasters; skip it without regret otherwise.
14. MEN IN BLACK Alien Attack
Park: Universal Studios Florida · Minimum height: 42 in / 107 cm · Best for: families, competitive groups, repeat rides
MEN IN BLACK doesn’t look modern in the way Epic Universe does, and that doesn’t matter. You ride through alien-infested streets firing laser blasters and competing for points, and the scoring gives it something many dark rides lack: a reason to ride again.
Why we like it. Skill counts. You can raise your score by learning where the high-value targets are and how the ride works, which makes it fun for families and groups of friends.
Better than Villain-Con Minion Blast? For us, easily. MEN IN BLACK feels like a proper moving ride, not an elaborate shooting gallery.
Verdict: one of Universal Studios Florida’s best second-tier rides.
15. Jurassic Park River Adventure
Park: Islands of Adventure · Land: Jurassic Park · Minimum height: 42 in / 107 cm · Best for: families, dinosaur fans · Warning: you may get wet
River Adventure starts gently enough, floating through Jurassic Park. Then everything goes wrong, and the ride builds to a final drop much bigger than the peaceful opening suggests.
How wet do you get? It varies. You might leave with a few splashes, or looking as if you tried to swim back to CityWalk. That feels great in Florida heat and much less so on a cool evening.
Closed until December 16, 2026. Jurassic Park River Adventure is closed for scheduled maintenance and reopens on December 17, 2026, according to Universal’s ride page. Closure dates can move, so check the ride’s status for your dates before counting on it.
Verdict: very good, especially in warm weather.

- Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts
- MEN IN BLACK Alien Attack
- E.T. Adventure
- Despicable Me Minion Mayhem
- Transformers: The Ride-3D
- Villain-Con Minion Blast
- The Simpsons Ride
Our first-day plan centers on Gringotts and Mummy, with Diagon Alley itself counted as part of the ride.
Islands of Adventure
This is Universal Orlando’s strongest ride park. Prioritize:
- Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure
- Jurassic World VelociCoaster
- Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
- The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man
- The Incredible Hulk Coaster
- Jurassic Park River Adventure (closed until December 16, 2026)
- Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges
- Skull Island: Reign of Kong
- Flight of the Hippogriff
If your group loves big rides, give Islands of Adventure a full day.
Epic Universe
Our current priority order:
- Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry
- Monsters Unchained
- Stardust Racers
- Mine-Cart Madness
- Hiccup’s Wing Gliders
- Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge
- Curse of the Werewolf
- Yoshi’s Adventure
- Dragon Racer’s Rally
- Fyre Drill
The order changes a lot with your group. For a coaster enthusiast, Stardust Racers goes straight to first or second. For families with younger children, Hiccup’s, Mario Kart and Yoshi’s Adventure move up. Universal’s own list of Epic Universe’s main rides includes Battle at the Ministry, Mario Kart, Hiccup’s Wing Gliders, Mine-Cart Madness, Monsters Unchained and Stardust Racers.
Best ride in each park
| Park | Best ride | Runner-up |
|---|---|---|
| Universal Studios Florida | Revenge of the Mummy | Escape from Gringotts |
| Islands of Adventure | Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure | VelociCoaster |
| Epic Universe | Battle at the Ministry | Monsters Unchained if you prefer dark rides, Stardust Racers if you prefer coasters |
Best Universal Orlando rides for thrill seekers
If you judge a ride by how fast, intense or frightening it is, prioritize:
- VelociCoaster
- Stardust Racers
- Hagrid’s
- Hulk
- Revenge of the Mummy
- Monsters Unchained
- Hiccup’s Wing Gliders
- Curse of the Werewolf
- Most intense overall: VelociCoaster
- Strongest positive G-forces: Hulk
- Best mix of thrills and storytelling: Hagrid’s
- Best indoor thrill ride: Revenge of the Mummy
Best Universal rides if you hate roller coasters
You can still have a very good Universal trip. Prioritize:
- Battle at the Ministry
- Monsters Unchained
- Spider-Man
- Mario Kart
- MEN IN BLACK
- Yoshi’s Adventure
- E.T. Adventure
- Le Cirque Arcanus
- The Untrainable Dragon
Be careful with Forbidden Journey even though it isn’t a coaster: for some riders its motion is harder to tolerate than an ordinary roller coaster.
Best rides for younger children
Universal’s height requirements vary a lot. Rides with lower minimums:
| Ride | Park | Minimum height |
|---|---|---|
| Yoshi’s Adventure | Epic Universe | 34 in / 87 cm |
| E.T. Adventure | Universal Studios Florida | 34 in / 87 cm |
| Trolls Trollercoaster | Universal Studios Florida | 36 in / 92 cm |
| Flight of the Hippogriff | Islands of Adventure | 36 in / 92 cm |
| The Cat in the Hat | Islands of Adventure | 36 in / 92 cm |
| Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge | Epic Universe | 40 in / 102 cm |
| Hiccup’s Wing Gliders | Epic Universe | 40 in / 102 cm |
| Mine-Cart Madness | Epic Universe | 40 in / 102 cm |
These match Universal’s published height requirements in October 2026. Our guide to Orlando with toddlers covers the rest of a small-child trip.
Best Universal rides for Harry Potter fans
There are major Potter rides in all three theme parks:
- Universal Studios Florida: Escape from Gringotts, best for the Diagon Alley atmosphere.
- Islands of Adventure: Hagrid’s, the best Potter ride overall; Forbidden Journey, the best Hogwarts experience; and the Hogwarts Express, which links the two original Wizarding Worlds if you have a Park-to-Park ticket.
- Epic Universe: Battle at the Ministry, the best new Potter ride.
If Potter is your main reason for visiting, we’d rank them:
- Hagrid’s
- Battle at the Ministry
- Forbidden Journey
- Escape from Gringotts
- Hogwarts Express
- Flight of the Hippogriff
We’d still ride them all. Our guide to Harry Potter at Universal Orlando shows how to fit all three Wizarding Worlds into one trip.
Which Universal rides cause the most motion sickness?
Universal uses more screens and simulated movement than many visitors expect, so plan around it. The highest-risk rides:
- Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey: our biggest warning.
- The Simpsons Ride: a strong simulator, well known among motion-sensitive visitors.
- Transformers: lots of fast visual movement combined with vehicle motion.
- Spider-Man: the same principle, although many people tolerate it better.
- Battle at the Ministry: physical movement mixed with projections.
- Monsters Unchained: Universal classes it partly as motion simulation, so sensitive riders should read the warnings.
Some people who feel sick on simulators are fine on coasters such as Hagrid’s, because a real coaster’s visual and physical cues match.
Which rides have the longest waits?
Wait times change too much by date for a fixed ranking, but expect these to need planning:
- Hagrid’s
- Battle at the Ministry
- Stardust Racers
- Monsters Unchained
- Mine-Cart Madness
- Mario Kart
- VelociCoaster
Don’t build your day on a rule such as “Hagrid’s always has a 90-minute wait”; waits don’t work that way. Check instead:
- operating hours
- Early Park Admission, which lets Universal hotel guests into selected rides up to 1 hour early (the participating park varies)
- Express eligibility
- real-time waits in the Universal app
- temporary closures
Should you use Universal Express for the best rides?
Possibly. Express can take much of the waiting out of a busy day, but don’t assume every ride takes part in the same Express program. Universal’s products and ride eligibility change. Epic Universe has Express access on many big rides, including Stardust Racers and Monsters Unchained, but check the current exclusions before you pay. Epic Universe Express is sold only by Universal, with no GetYourGuide listing.
For the two original parks, the 2-Park Express Pass from around $133 covers Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure on one date. Express is worth most when:
- your trip falls in a peak period
- you have only one day
- you want many rides more than time exploring the lands
- long queues would spoil the day
On a quiet weekday the price is harder to justify. Our Universal Express breakdown compares the versions, and our Universal Orlando tickets guide covers when Express is worth the money.
Single Rider: when to split your group
Single Rider lines can cut your wait sharply. The trade-off is obvious: you probably won’t sit together. Use Single Rider when:
- you’ve already seen the queue
- you’re repeating a ride
- everyone is happy to ride separately
- your priority is the most rides in the day
Avoid it on a first ride where the queue is part of the experience. We wouldn’t send a Potter fan through a side entrance if it meant missing the Hogwarts or Gringotts interiors on their first visit.
What to ride first at Universal Orlando
Islands of Adventure
If Hagrid’s is running and the queue is manageable, ride Hagrid’s first. Then go VelociCoaster, Forbidden Journey, Spider-Man and Hulk. Always check live waits: when everyone follows the same opening plan, the morning queue for one ride can be much worse than later in the day.
Universal Studios Florida
Start with Escape from Gringotts or Revenge of the Mummy, depending on current waits. Then finish Diagon Alley before moving on to the rest of the park.
Epic Universe
There is no perfect order that holds every day. Build the day around five rides: Battle at the Ministry, Monsters Unchained, Stardust Racers, Mine-Cart Madness and Hiccup’s Wing Gliders. Check ride status and current waits instead of following a touring plan written months ago. One rule we follow: if an Epic Universe ride you care about suddenly shows a much shorter wait, drop the plan and ride it.
The rides to skip first if time is short
These aren’t bad rides. They lose out when Universal has better ones nearby.
- Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon: a competent simulator, but Universal has too many stronger rides.
- Fast & Furious – Supercharged: low on our list unless you’re a dedicated fan of the films. Press reports say it is due to close when Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift arrives in 2027, so check it is still running if you want it.
- The Simpsons Ride: fun theming, but the ride can be punishing if you’re prone to motion sickness.
- Villain-Con Minion Blast: good with Minion-loving children, less essential next to Universal’s strongest dark rides.
- Skull Island: Reign of Kong: impressive scale, but put Spider-Man, Forbidden Journey and the park’s coasters ahead of it.
Best Universal Orlando ride overall
If we had to choose one, it would be Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. VelociCoaster is more intense, Battle at the Ministry is newer, Monsters Unchained has astonishing physical effects and Stardust Racers is a bigger traditional coaster. Hagrid’s suits the widest range of riders: enough speed for thrill seekers, enough story for Harry Potter fans and enough surprises to feel different even if you’ve ridden hundreds of coasters. It’s the ride we’d tell a first-time visitor not to miss.

Coming changes that could move the ranking
Rankings like this need regular checking: ride closures change, Express eligibility changes, height requirements can be revised and Epic Universe is still new. The biggest change ahead is Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, which Universal lists as coming to Universal Studios Florida in 2027. A major new coaster there could lift the park’s place in this ranking. Doing Disney too? Our best rides at Disney World uses the same approach.
The bottom line
Universal Orlando’s best rides now fall into three groups. Islands of Adventure still has the headline thrill pairing of Hagrid’s and VelociCoaster. Epic Universe has the deepest set of new-generation rides, led by Battle at the Ministry, Monsters Unchained and Stardust Racers. Universal Studios Florida is still worth a day for Revenge of the Mummy and Escape from Gringotts, even though its current lineup is weaker overall.
If you remember five names before your trip, make them Hagrid’s, VelociCoaster, Battle at the Ministry, Monsters Unchained and Stardust Racers. Build each park day around those, and treat everything else as a bonus. Then check which Universal ticket you need, because the Hogwarts Express and same-day park switching depend on it.
