Disney World Parks Compared: Which Disney Park Is Best for You?
Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios or Animal Kingdom? The four Disney World parks compared by age, rides, food and time needed, plus the best Park Hopper pairs.

Walt Disney World has four theme parks, and they are different enough that picking the right one can change your whole Orlando trip. Magic Kingdom is the classic Disney day: Cinderella Castle, princesses, Pirates of the Caribbean, Space Mountain and fireworks. EPCOT is best for food, adults, festivals and some of Disney World’s most ambitious modern rides. Hollywood Studios packs Star Wars, Toy Story and several of Disney’s strongest thrill rides into a fairly compact park. Animal Kingdom combines Avatar, excellent rides and live animals in the most beautiful and relaxed of the four.
For a first Walt Disney World visit, choose Magic Kingdom. For adults and couples, choose EPCOT. For teenagers, thrill rides and Star Wars, choose Hollywood Studios. For animals, Avatar and a less traditional theme-park day, choose Animal Kingdom. If you have four full days, the easy answer is to visit all four; with one or two days, the choice gets more interesting.
Disney sells admission to the four parks, with standard tickets letting you into one park per day unless you add Park Hopper. You buy it from Disney, and the box below is for an evening helicopter flight over the parks once your plans are fixed.

The four Disney World parks at a glance
You don’t need to become a Disney expert to choose the right park. You only need to know what kind of day your group wants. We compared the four by rides, age group, food, atmosphere, time needed and value on a limited Orlando itinerary.
| Park | Best for | Biggest strengths | Main drawback | How much time? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Magic Kingdom | First visits, young children, classic Disney fans | Most classic rides, castle, characters, parade, fireworks | Huge, and usually needs the most planning around lines | 1 full day minimum; 2 is better |
| EPCOT | Adults, couples, food, festivals, mixed-age groups | World Showcase, Guardians, Remy, Frozen, Test Track, dining | Lots of walking; less concentrated for small children | 1 full day |
| Hollywood Studios | Teens, thrill seekers, Star Wars and Toy Story fans | Rise of the Resistance, Tower of Terror, Slinky Dog, Muppets coaster | Fewer rides than Magic Kingdom, so the popular ones build long waits | 1 full day |
| Animal Kingdom | Animal lovers, Avatar fans, families wanting a calmer day | Flight of Passage, safari, Everest, beautiful theming | Shorter list of attractions and often a shorter operating day | ¾ to 1 day |

1. Magic Kingdom: best for the classic Disney experience
Choose Magic Kingdom if…
- this is your first Disney World trip
- you’re traveling with children under about 10
- Cinderella Castle is part of what you picture when you think of Disney
- you want princesses and classic characters
- you prefer lots of family-friendly rides over a handful of big thrill rides
- fireworks matter to you
- you have only one Disney day and want the most recognizably “Disney” experience
If somebody says they’re going to “Disney World” and pictures a castle, they’re almost certainly picturing Magic Kingdom.
The park is laid out around Cinderella Castle and divided into themed lands, including Adventureland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, Fantasyland and Tomorrowland. The castle stands 189 feet tall and is the park’s visual centerpiece, according to Walt Disney World.
It also has the deepest collection of attractions of the four parks. Current highlights include TRON Lightcycle / Run, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, Jungle Cruise and Peter Pan’s Flight. The newly refurbished Big Thunder Mountain and the upgraded Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin are both open in 2026.
Best rides at Magic Kingdom
For most visitors, put these first:
- TRON Lightcycle / Run: a short but spectacular futuristic coaster
- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train: a very approachable family coaster
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad: the classic runaway-mine-train coaster
- Space Mountain: the iconic indoor roller coaster in the dark
- Tiana’s Bayou Adventure: an elaborate flume ride
- Haunted Mansion: the classic Disney dark ride
- Pirates of the Caribbean: another Disney original to ride even if you’ve done newer attractions elsewhere
- Peter Pan’s Flight: charming rather than technically impressive, and enormously popular
Disney sells TRON Lightcycle / Run and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train as Magic Kingdom’s Lightning Lane Single Pass attractions, while Big Thunder, Jungle Cruise, Peter Pan’s Flight, Space Mountain and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure sit in the top selection group of Lightning Lane Multi Pass. That is a useful clue to which attractions will compete hardest for your time. Our best rides at Disney World guide ranks them across all four parks.
Magic Kingdom is much better than the other parks for small children
This is where Magic Kingdom has its biggest advantage.
Many attractions have no minimum height, so families with preschoolers can spend the day riding together instead of splitting up all the time. Pirates of the Caribbean, Peter Pan’s Flight, Haunted Mansion, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, “it’s a small world”, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and Mickey’s PhilharMagic are all open to guests of any height in Disney’s current listings.
If you’re taking a four-year-old to only one Disney park, this is almost certainly the one. Our guide to Orlando with toddlers covers the rest of the trip.
Magic Kingdom also has Disney World’s strongest nighttime finish
The regular nighttime headliner is Happily Ever After, which combines fireworks, projections, lighting and effects around Cinderella Castle and Main Street, U.S.A.
Magic Kingdom also presents Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away, a nighttime parade with illuminated Disney and Pixar floats, alongside the daytime Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade.
That combination matters. At some parks you can reasonably decide you’ve done enough by late afternoon. Magic Kingdom gives you strong reasons to stay until dark, as long as your date has regular evening hours (see the warning about party nights below).
Who might prefer another park?
Magic Kingdom is not the automatic winner for everybody.
Adults without children who want good food, drinks and a slower pace may enjoy EPCOT more. Teenagers mainly interested in intense rides may prefer Hollywood Studios. And visitors who have already been to Disneyland in California will find more overlap here than at EPCOT or Animal Kingdom.
How long do you need?
At least one full day.
For a first visit where Magic Kingdom is a priority, two days is not excessive. It is the park where trying to “do everything” in one day is least realistic.
Magic Kingdom verdict
The safest choice for a first Disney visit.
It isn’t Disney World’s most sophisticated park, and it doesn’t have all of its best rides. What it does have is the greatest concentration of the experiences people travel to Disney for in the first place.
Rating for first-time visitors: 10/10
2. EPCOT: best for adults, food and a more varied Disney day
Choose EPCOT if…
- you’re an adult or a couple visiting without young children
- eating and drinking are part of the attraction
- you like wandering more than racing from ride to ride
- you want to ride Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
- you’d like Disney mixed with gardens, architecture, technology and international pavilions
- someone in your group isn’t especially interested in traditional Disney characters
- you’re visiting during an EPCOT festival
EPCOT is probably the park most likely to surprise adults who assume Walt Disney World is mainly for children.
It is split between ride-heavy neighborhoods near the entrance and World Showcase, a large lagoon ringed by pavilions from 11 countries, each with its own restaurants, shops and entertainment, as Disney’s EPCOT page describes it.
You can ride one of Disney World’s most aggressive coasters in the morning, eat in Japan at lunch, wander through Morocco and France in the afternoon and watch fireworks over the lagoon at night.
No other Disney World park feels quite like it.
Best rides at EPCOT
Our priority list is:
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
- Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure
- Frozen Ever After
- Test Track
- Soarin’ Across America
- Spaceship Earth
- Living with the Land
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is the standout. For many adults and older children, it is the best ride in all four Walt Disney World parks.
Disney sells Guardians as EPCOT’s Lightning Lane Single Pass attraction, while Frozen Ever After, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and Test Track form the top group for Multi Pass selections.
EPCOT has changed substantially
Old descriptions of EPCOT as “the educational Disney park” are more and more misleading.
Spaceship Earth, Living with the Land and The Seas with Nemo & Friends still keep some of that identity. But today’s park also has Guardians, Frozen, Ratatouille and the rebuilt Test Track, which Disney describes as a ride through the future of transportation that ends in a high-speed race.
There is also a temporary 2026 version of Soarin’. Soarin’ Across America has replaced Soarin’ Around the World for the U.S. 250th-anniversary celebration, using the attraction’s giant projection dome, motion, music and scents for a flight over American landscapes and cities.
Check details like this close to your trip, because EPCOT’s festivals and seasonal overlays change regularly. In 2026 the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival runs from August 27 to November 21.
Why EPCOT is our pick for adults
You don’t have to spend the whole day in line.
World Showcase rewards slow travel. Browse Japanese department-store goods, stop for a pastry in France, listen to live music, have a drink in Germany or Mexico, and take your time over dinner.
EPCOT is particularly good for:
- couples
- groups of adult friends
- multigenerational families
- repeat Disney visitors
- travelers who enjoy food
- people who want a break from back-to-back rides and character meets
It’s also one of the easiest parks to enjoy into the evening.
The regular nighttime show is Luminous: The Symphony of Us, combining fireworks, fountains, lights and music across World Showcase Lagoon.
Is EPCOT good for children?
Yes, but age makes a difference.
Frozen Ever After, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, The Seas with Nemo & Friends, Turtle Talk With Crush and Journey Into Imagination With Figment all work for younger guests.
But there are fewer “one cute ride after another” areas than at Magic Kingdom, and World Showcase means a lot of walking.
For a five-year-old choosing between EPCOT and Magic Kingdom, we’d pick Magic Kingdom.
For an 11-year-old choosing between them, EPCOT becomes much more competitive.
EPCOT’s biggest drawback: the walking
EPCOT is huge.
The distance between attractions can be deceptive on a map, especially when you keep crossing between World Showcase and the front half of the park.
Don’t plan it as though every attraction is five minutes from the next.
Comfortable shoes matter here even by Orlando standards.
How long do you need?
One full day.
Ride-focused guests can cover the essentials faster, but World Showcase is exactly the part you lose by rushing.
EPCOT verdict
Our favorite park for adults, and one of the best second parks after Magic Kingdom.
Come for Guardians. Stay because wandering around EPCOT with no ride reservation to rush for can be one of the most enjoyable stretches of an Orlando vacation.
Rating for adults: 10/10
3. Disney’s Hollywood Studios: best for thrill rides, Star Wars and teenagers
Choose Hollywood Studios if…
- Star Wars is a major reason you’re visiting Disney World
- you have teenagers
- rides matter more to you than parades and castle photos
- you love Toy Story
- you want several headline attractions in one park
- you prefer immersive movie worlds
- your children are old and tall enough for bigger rides
Hollywood Studios has a very different problem from Magic Kingdom.
There aren’t as many rides, but an unusually high share of them are excellent.
That makes it a fantastic park for people with clear priorities, and sometimes a frustrating one when those same rides all build long lines at once.
Best rides at Hollywood Studios
Our current priority ranking:
- Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
- The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
- Slinky Dog Dash
- Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets
- Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
- Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
- Toy Story Mania!
- Star Tours – The Adventures Continue
Rise of the Resistance is the headline. It’s less a conventional ride than a sequence of theatrical scenes, vehicles and set pieces, and it is still one of Walt Disney World’s most ambitious attractions.
Disney sells Rise of the Resistance as Hollywood Studios’ Lightning Lane Single Pass attraction. Slinky Dog Dash, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and the new Muppets coaster make up the park’s top Multi Pass group.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge can justify the park by itself
For a Star Wars fan, there isn’t much of a debate.
Galaxy’s Edge holds both Rise of the Resistance and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, wrapped in one of Disney’s most elaborate themed lands. Disney’s pitch is the chance to “live out your very own Star Wars adventure.”
Smugglers Run now has a mission with The Mandalorian and Grogu, tracking down ex-Imperial officers.
Even visitors who aren’t devoted Star Wars fans should walk through Galaxy’s Edge after dark.
Hollywood Studios has had significant 2026 changes
This is one park where older online guides go out of date quickly.
The former Aerosmith version of Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster is now Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, featuring The Electric Mayhem. It keeps the high-speed launch and its three inversions (two rollover loops and a corkscrew), with a new Muppets story and soundtrack.
The park also has the new Magic of Disney Animation experiences, while Monstropolis, the coming Monsters, Inc. land, is due to open in parts in 2027, according to Disney’s Hollywood Studios page.
That makes 2026 something of an in-between year: several new offerings are open, while a major future land is still under construction.
It’s excellent for teenagers
If you’re traveling with a 14-year-old who isn’t excited about princesses or Dumbo, Hollywood Studios is the easiest recommendation.
Consider the lineup:
- Rise of the Resistance
- Tower of Terror
- Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets
- Slinky Dog Dash
- Smugglers Run
- Star Tours
Few Disney parks anywhere put that many teen-friendly attractions so close together. There’s more on the rest of the trip in Orlando with teenagers.
But don’t dismiss it for small children
Toy Story Land works well for families, and the park still has shows and character experiences.
Its Lightning Lane-eligible entertainment includes Beauty and the Beast – Live on Stage, For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration, Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live!, The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure and the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular!
So a family with mixed ages can still make Hollywood Studios work.
It’s simply less forgiving than Magic Kingdom when several people in the group don’t meet ride height requirements.
Best nighttime show
Fantasmic! is one of Walt Disney World’s strongest nighttime productions: part stage show, part water spectacular, part fireworks and projections, all built around Mickey Mouse’s imagination.
Disney also lists Wonderful World of Animation among the park’s evening entertainment.
How long do you need?
One full day if the headline rides matter to you.
On paper you may count fewer attractions than at Magic Kingdom and assume this is a half-day park. In practice, the lines for Rise, Slinky Dog and the other big rides can take up enough time to fill your day.
Hollywood Studios verdict
The best park for teenagers, and arguably the strongest park ride for ride.
It isn’t where we’d send a first-time family with a toddler for their only Disney day. For a group of Star Wars fans or thrill-seeking teens, it could easily be the favorite of the trip.
Rating for thrill seekers: 9.5/10
4. Disney’s Animal Kingdom: best for animals, atmosphere and something genuinely different
Choose Animal Kingdom if…
- you love animals and nature
- Avatar Flight of Passage is high on your list
- you want the most beautiful Disney World park
- conventional theme parks don’t especially appeal to you
- you enjoy detailed environments and slower exploring
- you want a slightly more relaxed day
- you’d like to pair two parks using Park Hopper
Calling Animal Kingdom “Disney’s zoo” badly undersells it.
Yes, it has real animals, lots of them, but it combines them with some of Disney World’s best-designed spaces and several excellent rides.
Its centerpiece, the Tree of Life, stands 145 feet tall and carries carvings of more than 300 animals, according to Disney.
Around it are African and Asian lands, walking trails, live shows, Pandora and large areas that reward simply looking around.
Best Animal Kingdom attractions
Our priorities:
- Avatar Flight of Passage
- Kilimanjaro Safaris
- Expedition Everest
- Na’vi River Journey
- Festival of the Lion King
- Kali River Rapids
- Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond!
- Zootopia: Better Zoogether!
Flight of Passage is worth prioritizing
If you’ve never ridden Avatar Flight of Passage, don’t dismiss it because you’re indifferent to the movie.
Its mix of motion, a huge screen that fills your view and small sensory effects creates a remarkably convincing feeling of flight.
Disney sells Flight of Passage as Animal Kingdom’s Lightning Lane Single Pass attraction, which makes it the obvious ride to plan the day around.
Kilimanjaro Safaris makes Animal Kingdom fundamentally different
This isn’t an animatronic safari.
The ride takes you through the Harambe Wildlife Reserve, 110 acres with more than 30 species, where you might see giraffes, elephants, lions, rhinos, crocodiles, zebras, cheetahs and hippos. Because these are real animals, no two rides are the same.
That unpredictability is the point.
Go earlier in the day if the safari matters to you, both because the animals can be more active and because you don’t want to run short of operating time later.
Pandora is at its best after dark
Pandora – The World of Avatar holds Flight of Passage and Na’vi River Journey, but the land itself is part of the attraction.
If park hours let you see it after sunset, its bioluminescent effects transform the landscape.
That creates one of Animal Kingdom’s awkward planning trade-offs: it often closes earlier than the other Walt Disney World parks, so seeing Pandora after dark depends on the season and your date. On October 9, 2026, for example, Animal Kingdom’s rides closed at 7 p.m., while EPCOT and Hollywood Studios stayed open until 9 p.m.
Always check your specific date before assuming Pandora will be open well into the night.
What’s new in Animal Kingdom in 2026?
Zootopia: Better Zoogether! now runs inside the Tree of Life Theater. It’s a 4D show for all ages with Judy Hopps, Nick Wilde and characters from across Zootopia.
Bluey’s Wild World at Conservation Station is another new addition, with Bluey and Bingo.
The bigger story is what isn’t open yet.
Tropical Americas, a new 11-acre land with the village of Pueblo Esperanza, is being built with attractions inspired by Encanto and Indiana Jones. Disney lists it as coming soon, not as part of the current lineup.
If older guides tell you to visit DinoLand U.S.A. or DINOSAUR, check current information before building your plans around the former lineup.
Animal Kingdom has some of Disney World’s best shows
This is easy to overlook when you plan only around rides.
Festival of the Lion King earns a slot in your day, not just a rainy-hour fallback. Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond! is another substantial indoor stage show. Both are part of the current lineup.
In Orlando’s afternoon heat, good indoor shows are also very useful.
Animal Kingdom is a great Park Hopper park
If you arrive early and focus on Flight of Passage, the safari, Everest and one or two shows, you can often see the park’s essentials before evening.
That makes Animal Kingdom a natural first half of a Park Hopper day, followed by EPCOT or Hollywood Studios.
Just don’t read “possible to leave early” as “not worth visiting.”
Part of Animal Kingdom’s appeal is in the things you miss when you race through it.
Animal Kingdom verdict
The most distinctive of Walt Disney World’s four parks.
It doesn’t have Magic Kingdom’s huge attraction count, but it may be the park we’d most happily wander through without checking a wait-time app every five minutes.
Rating for atmosphere: 10/10
Which Disney World park is actually the best?
There is no single best park for everyone, but there is usually a best park for your group.
If this is your first ever Disney visit
Pick: Magic Kingdom
It holds more of the Disney experiences you’ve probably come expecting: Cinderella Castle, classic rides, familiar characters, a major parade and fireworks.
Skipping it on a first trip makes sense only if your group actively dislikes that style of park.
If you’re visiting Disney World as adults
Pick: EPCOT
EPCOT has enough headline attractions to justify the ticket price without making you spend every minute chasing rides.
Guardians, World Showcase, restaurants, drinks and evening entertainment make it the easiest park to turn into a relaxed adult day.
Second choice: Animal Kingdom.
If you’re traveling with toddlers or preschoolers
Pick: Magic Kingdom
It has by far the easiest lineup for children too small for the big thrill rides.
You can fill a day with attractions the whole family can ride together, instead of using Rider Switch over and over.
If you’re traveling with teenagers
Pick: Hollywood Studios
Rise of the Resistance, Tower of Terror, Slinky Dog Dash, Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster and Smugglers Run in one park are hard to beat.
Second choice: EPCOT, mainly because of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.
If you love roller coasters and thrill rides
Pick: Hollywood Studios
Hollywood Studios has the densest thrill-heavy lineup.
But serious ride fans should also fit in EPCOT for Guardians and Magic Kingdom for TRON, Space Mountain and the family coasters.
Walt Disney World has no equivalent of Universal’s Islands of Adventure, where nearly every headliner sits in the same park. If big coasters are the main point of your trip, compare Universal Orlando tickets too.
If you’re a Star Wars fan
Pick: Hollywood Studios
No contest.
Galaxy’s Edge alone decides it.
If you love food
Pick: EPCOT
Again, this isn’t close.
World Showcase plus EPCOT’s frequent festivals make food part of the day’s entertainment, not just somewhere you refuel between rides.
If you love animals
Pick: Animal Kingdom
Kilimanjaro Safaris, the walking trails and dedicated animal experiences give it a category the other parks don’t have.
Disney also sells separately bookable experiences such as Caring for Giants, Wild Africa Trek, Savor the Savanna and Up Close with Rhinos. These are booked only through Disney, so see the Animal Kingdom page on Disney’s site for dates and prices.
If you don’t really like Disney
Pick: Animal Kingdom or EPCOT
It sounds contradictory, but both parks can work surprisingly well for people who don’t care about Disney characters.
At Animal Kingdom, the wildlife, landscaping and architecture do much of the work.
At EPCOT, food, World Showcase and rides such as Guardians and Test Track give you plenty to enjoy without knowing every Disney movie.
Magic Kingdom vs EPCOT
This is probably the most common choice for visitors short on time.
Choose Magic Kingdom if you want:
- Disney nostalgia
- Cinderella Castle
- princesses
- lots of rides for small children
- traditional dark rides
- a daytime parade
- classic fireworks
Choose EPCOT if you want:
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
- better food
- World Showcase
- a more adult atmosphere
- fewer character-driven experiences
- more space to wander
- a park that feels different from Disneyland-style castle parks
Our winner
First trip: Magic Kingdom.
Repeat trip or adults: EPCOT.
Magic Kingdom vs Hollywood Studios
Choose Magic Kingdom for younger children and a broad family day.
Choose Hollywood Studios for older children, teenagers, Star Wars and thrill rides.
Your children’s height and interests are often the dividing line.
A seven-year-old obsessed with princesses? Magic Kingdom.
A 15-year-old obsessed with Star Wars? Hollywood Studios.
EPCOT vs Hollywood Studios
This is a harder choice for adults.
Choose Hollywood Studios if your priority list is mostly rides.
Choose EPCOT if the whole day matters: attractions, food, drinks, atmosphere and wandering.
Hollywood Studios has the more concentrated ride lineup.
EPCOT is the park we’d rather spend 12 unhurried hours in.
EPCOT vs Animal Kingdom
Choose EPCOT if you want a full morning-to-night park day.
Choose Animal Kingdom if wildlife, Avatar and atmosphere appeal more than the number of attractions.
For adults with Park Hopper, the two fit together very well: Animal Kingdom in the morning, EPCOT into the evening.
Should you visit all four Disney World parks?
If you have four Disney park days, yes.
Each park is different enough that we would visit all four before repeating one, unless your family has a strong preference.
Our basic plan by number of days:
| Disney days available | What we’d do |
|---|---|
| 1 day | Magic Kingdom |
| 2 days | Magic Kingdom + EPCOT |
| 3 days | Magic Kingdom + EPCOT + Hollywood Studios |
| 4 days | One day in each park |
| 5 days | All four + a second Magic Kingdom day |
| 6 days | All four + a repeat Magic Kingdom day + a repeat of your favorite park |
There are exceptions.
Star Wars fans with two days should seriously consider Magic Kingdom + Hollywood Studios.
Families with toddlers might happily spend two Magic Kingdom days instead of forcing in every park.
Adults without children could reasonably put EPCOT, Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios first.
Whatever the plan, a multi-day ticket costs less per day than single days bought separately. Our Disney World tickets guide compares the ticket types and current prices. Disney sells these for 1 to 10 days.
Which Disney park should you skip if you’re short on time?
This is where a comparison has to pick a side.
For most first-time families: skip Animal Kingdom first
Not because it’s bad. It isn’t.
But if you have only three Disney days and want the broadest introduction to Walt Disney World, Magic Kingdom, EPCOT and Hollywood Studios between them cover more traditional rides, nighttime entertainment and big Disney and movie franchises.
For families with very small children: skip Hollywood Studios first
A large share of its best rides have height requirements or stronger thrills.
For adults uninterested in Disney nostalgia: consider skipping Magic Kingdom
Yes, really.
If castle photos, classic dark rides and characters mean little to you, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom may better justify three expensive park days.
Is Park Hopper worth it?
Disney’s Park Hopper option lets you visit more than one theme park on the same day, subject to capacity. You can add it when you buy from Disney.
Whether it’s worth paying extra depends on your plans.
Park Hopper makes the most sense when:
- you have only two or three Disney days
- you’ve visited before
- you’re comfortable using Disney transportation
- you want Animal Kingdom in the morning and another park at night
- you’re staying on Disney property
- you want flexibility if one park gets too crowded
- you have dinner or evening plans in a different park
Park Hopper is less useful when:
- it’s your first visit
- you’re traveling with toddlers
- you have one full day for each park
- you dislike losing time to transport and security
- your schedule is already packed
For first-time visitors, we generally prefer one park per day over trying to collect four parks like passport stamps.
Best Disney World Park Hopper combinations
Animal Kingdom → EPCOT
Our favorite pairing.
Start early with Flight of Passage and Kilimanjaro Safaris, then move to EPCOT for rides, dinner, World Showcase and the nighttime show.
Hollywood Studios → EPCOT
Another very practical pairing, because the Disney Skyliner gondola links Hollywood Studios with EPCOT’s International Gateway.
Do the big Hollywood Studios rides first, then finish with dinner around World Showcase.
Animal Kingdom → Magic Kingdom
This works if you want animals and Avatar in the morning, then castle atmosphere and nighttime entertainment.
The downside is the travel time between the two parks.
Magic Kingdom → another park
We’d generally avoid hopping away from Magic Kingdom on a first visit.
There’s too much there to justify cutting the day in half.
Do you need Lightning Lane at every Disney park?
No.
Disney sells three kinds of paid Lightning Lane pass, only through the My Disney Experience app:
- Multi Pass: choose up to three eligible experiences and arrival windows in advance, then add more as you use them, subject to availability
- Single Pass: buy access to one of a park’s most in-demand attractions, up to two Single Passes a day
- Premier Pass: one-time Lightning Lane entry to each available Lightning Lane experience in one park, with no arrival windows to schedule; it is sold in limited quantities
Guests at Disney Resort hotels and a few other select hotels can buy passes up to seven days before their stay, while most other guests can buy up to three days before their park visit. If you live outside the US, Disney’s international site says you can only buy once you have arrived in the US.
Where Multi Pass is most useful
Magic Kingdom: usually the best value, because so many rides take part.
Hollywood Studios: can be valuable, because several headline attractions build long lines.
EPCOT: useful, but the two selection groups mean your advance choices need some strategy.
Animal Kingdom: less essential for many visitors, because there are fewer headline attractions, although Flight of Passage is the obvious high-demand ride to plan around.
Prices vary by date and by park or attraction, so don’t build an old Lightning Lane price into your budget. Disney shows current prices in the My Disney Experience app.
One important 2026 planning warning: check park hours before buying
Don’t assume every Disney park stays open until the same time.
Park hours change by date, and separately ticketed events can change the schedule a lot.
This matters most at Magic Kingdom during the Halloween and Christmas seasons. On party nights, regular park hours end early because the evening is reserved for a separately ticketed event. On October 9, 2026, for example, Magic Kingdom’s regular hours ran from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and a separately ticketed party took over from 6:30 p.m.
That can make a normally priced Magic Kingdom day much shorter.
Before choosing your park dates:
- check the official park hours calendar
- look for separately ticketed events
- check nighttime show schedules
- check ride refurbishments
- then decide which park goes on which day
The order of your park days can matter almost as much as which parks you choose. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, for one, closes for refurbishment from November 2, 2026, and is expected to reopen in December 2026.
Our ideal first-time four-day Disney World itinerary
Day 1: Magic Kingdom
Start with the classic park while everyone is fresh.
Do a few big rides early, slow down in the afternoon, then stay for the nighttime entertainment.
Day 2: EPCOT
A more relaxed follow-up day.
Ride Guardians and your other priorities, then give World Showcase proper time instead of racing around it.
Day 3: Animal Kingdom
Start early.
Ride Flight of Passage, take the safari, see Festival of the Lion King and explore the animal trails.
This can also be your slightly earlier finish after two long park days.
Day 4: Hollywood Studios
Finish with some of Walt Disney World’s biggest rides: Rise of the Resistance, Tower of Terror, Slinky Dog Dash and the Muppets’ Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster.
Stay for Fantasmic!
What we would change for families with small children
- Day 1: Magic Kingdom
- Day 2: Animal Kingdom
- Day 3: EPCOT
- Day 4: Magic Kingdom again
We would seriously consider skipping Hollywood Studios until the children are taller, if nobody in the family especially cares about Star Wars.
What we would change for teenagers
- Day 1: Hollywood Studios
- Day 2: Magic Kingdom
- Day 3: EPCOT
- Day 4: Animal Kingdom
If you add Park Hopper, Animal Kingdom + EPCOT works particularly well.
What we would change for an adults-only Disney trip
Our ranking becomes:
- EPCOT
- Animal Kingdom
- Hollywood Studios
- Magic Kingdom
That doesn’t make Magic Kingdom bad. It means the things EPCOT and Animal Kingdom do best (restaurants, architecture, atmosphere, wandering, wildlife) count for more when nobody in your party is desperate to meet Mickey.

The bottom line: which Disney World park should you choose?
If you’re still undecided, use this shortcut:
- Choose Magic Kingdom if you want Disney.
- Choose EPCOT if you want Disney plus food, travel and grown-up appeal.
- Choose Hollywood Studios if you want Disney plus blockbuster rides.
- Choose Animal Kingdom if you want Disney plus wildlife and atmosphere.
For a first-time visitor with only one day, we’d buy a Magic Kingdom ticket.
With two days, we’d add EPCOT.
With three, we’d add Hollywood Studios.
With four, don’t overthink it: see all four.
There is no objectively “best” Disney park. The costly mistake is spending your only Disney day in the park least suited to the people you’re traveling with. Once you know which parks you’ll visit, our best rides at Disney World guide shows which lines are worth your time in each.
Frequently asked questions
How many Disney World theme parks are there?
Walt Disney World has four theme parks: Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Disney also runs two water parks, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach, which need a separate ticket or add-on. Typhoon Lagoon has been temporarily closed since September 9, 2026.
Which Disney World park is the best?
For most first-time visitors, Magic Kingdom is the best choice, because it has the most classic Disney rides, characters, Cinderella Castle, parades and nighttime entertainment. There isn’t a universal winner, though: EPCOT is better for many adults, Hollywood Studios for Star Wars and thrill rides, and Animal Kingdom for animals and atmosphere.
Which Disney park is best for adults?
EPCOT is our first choice for adults, for World Showcase, the restaurants, drinks, festivals and big rides such as Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. Animal Kingdom is a close second for adults who value atmosphere and wildlife.
Which Disney park is best for kids?
For most children, especially those under about 10, Magic Kingdom. It has the biggest choice of rides without restrictive minimum heights.
Which Disney park is best for teenagers?
Hollywood Studios, particularly for Rise of the Resistance, Tower of Terror, Slinky Dog Dash and Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets.
Which Disney World park has the most rides?
Magic Kingdom has the broadest ride collection, and it is the park where one full day is least likely to feel like enough.
Which Disney park has the best rides?
For quality over quantity, we’d give the edge to Hollywood Studios. For quantity and variety, Magic Kingdom wins. For the best single coaster, EPCOT’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is a serious contender.
Is Animal Kingdom a full-day park?
It can be. Visitors who focus only on Flight of Passage, Kilimanjaro Safaris and Expedition Everest can finish much earlier, but adding the animal trails, Festival of the Lion King, Finding Nemo and time to explore makes it a much fuller day.
Can you visit two Disney parks in one day?
Yes, with a ticket that includes the Park Hopper option. Disney lets you visit more than one theme park on the same day, subject to capacity.
Which two Disney parks work best in one day?
Our first choice is Animal Kingdom + EPCOT. Hollywood Studios + EPCOT is another strong combination. For first-time visitors, though, we’d rather give Magic Kingdom its own full day.
