About This Experience

This day trip picks you up from select hotels in Orlando, Kissimmee, Lake Buena Vista and the Disney area and drives you west to Crystal River on Florida's Gulf side. Crystal River is known for its clear spring water and its manatees, the large, slow and endangered marine mammals often called sea cows. The full day runs about 11 hours, so expect an early start and an evening return.

At the river you board a pontoon boat on Crystal River and Kings Bay with a captain and a certified dive master. Mask, snorkel and fins are provided, and you get into the water to swim or snorkel alongside wild manatees if they are around. Manatees are curious and often come close to swimmers. If you would rather stay dry, you can sit on the boat and watch from above.

A wetsuit is not included; it costs $15, paid on site at the dive shop. After the snorkel, you eat a box lunch with a drink, then continue to Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park. There you can see Florida's native and endangered species, including the Florida panther, and watch manatees again from an underwater viewing chamber. Admission to the park is included in the tour.

Bring swimwear, a towel, a change of clothes, sunscreen, sunglasses and comfortable shoes, and pack an underwater camera if you have one. Extra food and drinks and tips are not included, and pickup is not available from residential addresses or areas outside the service region. Confirm your booking and your pickup place and time at least 48 hours ahead. You can cancel up to 24 hours before for a full refund.

This suits families, couples and nature lovers who are comfortable in the water and happy to trade a theme park day for wildlife. Manatees are wild, so sightings cannot be guaranteed. The tour does not run on some holidays, including Christmas Day. If you want a short outing or cannot handle a long day on the road, a local attraction closer to Orlando may be a better fit.

What Travelers Say

Rated 4.6/5 by 106 verified GetYourGuide travelers.

This is an amazing day out and FANTASTIC value for money. We went snorkling, to a state park and on an airboat ride. The whole day was maybe 12 hours or so out and about so it’s fab value for money. There is a lunch provided that looked great but sadly wasn’t able to accommodate my dietary needs so if you’ve allergies pack snacks just in case! Other than that, it was truly amazing. Tour Guide Adam is so delightful and entertaining. Thanks Adam for a wonderful and memorable day out in Florida

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I guaranteed to swim with manatees?

No. The manatees in Crystal River are wild animals, and the listing states that sightings are not guaranteed. The boat takes you to Crystal River and Kings Bay where they live, and manatees often approach snorkelers when they are present. You also get a second chance to see them from the underwater viewing chamber at Homosassa Springs.

Do I have to get in the water?

No. Swimming and snorkeling are optional. If you prefer to stay above water, you can sit on the pontoon boat, relax and watch the river while others snorkel. The afternoon at Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park is on land, with an underwater viewing chamber, so non-swimmers still see manatees during the day.

What does the wetsuit cost, and do I need one?

A wetsuit is not included in the tour price. It costs $15 and is paid on site at the dive shop before you get on the boat. Mask, snorkel and fins are included. Decide on the day at the dive shop, and bring the cash or card to pay for it there if you want one.

Is lunch included?

Yes, a box lunch with a drink is included. The listing describes it as a sandwich, chips, a cookie and a cold drink. Additional food and drinks are extra. If you have allergies or special dietary needs, pack your own snacks, as the set lunch may not suit every diet.

Where does pickup happen, and when?

The tour picks up from select hotels in Orlando, Kissimmee, Lake Buena Vista and the Disney area. Residential addresses and areas outside the service region are not covered. You need to confirm your reservation and your pickup location and time at least 48 hours in advance, so do this as soon as you book.
